The answer is not obvious actually, it depends on the fish. Freshwater fish don’t get thirsty while saltwater fish do. In fact, it’s all about osmotic pressure. Osmotic pressure is the difference in pressure exerted on either side of a semi-permeable membrane by two liquids of different concentration. A semi-permeable membrane is one that allows water to pass through it, but remains impermeable to salt.
