My time at Harmony was eye-opening and extremely beneficial to starting my life in recovery. Appreciate the staff, the spiritual insights and lessons learned while there. Also grateful for the Hub and other events that are available to Alumni and family. Bookclub and other zoom meetings have added to my continuing journey in the new way of living. Definitely recommend seeking treatment and recovery at Harmony to anyone with any addiction issues.

This is an acute detox program primarily for alcoholism. Some clients are there to address non-alcohol drug disorders, but there is little to no distinctions between the groups in terms of approach to therapy, programming or resources Programming is weak to non-existent for process addictions-most counselors have only rudimentary training or experience in such compulsive behavior disorders. There is way too much “down-time”. I asked to start my program as quickly as possible or I would leave. The nurses thought my eagerness and drive was great, the CEO told me I was “disruptive.” (More on this gentleman follows below). Before I went, I had a couple of intake evals over the phone. I was assured that the abbreviated “recommitment to recovery” program would be appropriate for me. It was not. The intake person I had worked with gave me a direct apology and said that the administration had not kept him up to date on clinical offerings. I did not receive the correct program materials until the 3rd or 4th day (out of a 14 day program). The counselor I was assigned to left for several days to Learn how to give the mode of therapy I had asked for. Some therapists do not possess earned master’s degrees in mental health or counseling. Initially I was assigned one who lacked this training; I asked for a reassignment to someone with training at least equal to the therapist I had at home. I was reassigned but I was verbally derided and abused by the CEO who implied that I would have gotten the counseling I had asked for if only I had not asked for a higher-degree counselor. You should know that you will be put into a mandatory detox of at least 24 hours, even if, like me, you show up with no drugs or alcohol in your system. I complained to the CEO and he said that the institution couldn’t rely on the history (and presumably intake lab work). I asked him if he thought that I was a liar; he said no. But then he said that since I had some medical problems (unrelated to my admission and totally asymptomatic) that in his opinion, I needed to be in the detox unit. In my state, the medical evaluation of and formation of a medical treatment plan can only be performed by a physician, PA or advanced practice nurse. By the CEO’s admission he lacks any training or license to practice medicine. Last thing about this CEO chap: he didn’t like it that I filed a written complaint about the issue with the promised therapy not being available and the mandatory detox. Complaints such as this are protected by state regulations. The CEO didn’t see it that way. He indignantly bristled at the word “complaint” which begs the question: what else would you call it? He led me to his office cheerily twittering “mindfulnesses, mindfulness”; who knows what he was doing-maybe he was deriding my statement that I didn’t feel that I was getting support in developing that skill. No one had ever seen this behavior in him so it must have been meant for me. At our meeting, he observed that I was a physician; he then suggested that programs elsewhere would be more suitable for me. Hmmm, that’s what the intake was for, right!? Did he notify the clinical staff so that I could transfer to a program more “suitable?” Who know? The insurance folks made a request for authorization for another week of therapy. Get it: CEO basically states that I should go somewhere else, followed by finance asking for additional insurance payments. Here’s the good: therapy is based on 12 step model; if that’s not your thing, don’t go here. Absolutely beautiful setting in the Colorado rockies. The housing is really nice. No, not a resort, but attractive, clean cabins. The food service from the servers to the chef, prepare very tasty dishes and they will adapt to your dietary needs. The medical service is attentive to your needs and can appropriately handle routine care and emergencies. The clients are divided by sex (gender), Which actually is a very good thing. TL:DR: go here if you need acute detox from alcohol. Otherwise, there are more appropriate programs elsewhere.
