Thorndale is not the same station. Its along the same line. West of Thorndale is out of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) operating zone where it becomes exclusively amtrak to lacaster but continuing on to Harrisburg merging with the Norfolk Southern (NS) line to Pittsburgh. East of Thorndale is the SEPTA Paoli/Thorndale line. Its referred to the Paoli Thorndale line because Paoli was originally the last stop, but it was later expanded to Thorndale. So I'm aware your jury duty had long passed, but I hope this was helpful. If you're in Lancaster you would need to take Amtrak Keystone or Pennsylvanian Eastbound to get to the Philadelphia Market Street.

To answer second question, I think there is a reduced ticket price for senior persons. You can also try Amtrack Express from Downingtown station for $16 round trip if you want to save time.
