Beautiful park. Hunter/hiking trails could use to be cleared at least once a year. Love that there are 2 shooter benches in the pit.

Did some hiking and picture taking there. Wonderful place to get to experience the peace and quiet. Drive a 4x4 vehicle out there in the winter season

The atrocious scum that kept hauling in appliances, couches, computers, freon containers from air conditioners, propane tanks, cardboard, old target stands, old car parts, tires, beer bottles, old ammo boxes, and stuffed animals, as well as entirely destroying the donated shooting benches, enclosed fiberglass signage, and nice enclosed concrete floored outhouses have finally ruined it for everyone. The road to the range is now closed to all highway vehicles from January to November each year because jerks couldn't just haul away their trash and stop themselves from shooting up nice things. So its a great range, if you don't mind hauling in targets and guns from 3 miles down the road. Thanks, jerks.

Can you drive a 4x4 truck or Jeep here?

Kinda. The main road to the back is a minimum maintenance road. However the trails are only ATV and ohm, not ORV. If you're looking for ORV trails to take a Jeep on, spider lake and iron range are northern MN, and Appleton is Western MN. There is also a new proposed border to border Jeep trail, that follows minimum maintenance roads and State Forest trails as well. It goes from saint Vincent to Grand Marais. Minnesota unfortunately doesn't have many off-road vehicle trails. They really limited themselves to ATV trails

People don't on the whole trail. If your dog doesn't spook when an ATV comes by, I'd say walk your dog. If you go south from the red horse parking lot ATV s are no allowed.
