Primitive hiking trail is an understatement! The 1.2 mile loop trail is marked with blazers that are quite necessary in some areas. Parking area and a picnic bench are well maintained for a place that's so secluded. Nice to feel like we are actually going out into nature even though we are in Baton Rouge, it's definitely a hidden gem! Can't wait to see the future improvements and trails! 2/26/22 Update: Since this first review, BREC has added two access trails to bayou Manchac with benches that overlook the view. This makes the loop 2 miles. There is an additional trail that cuts to the other side of the loop, bypassing the bayou. There are now boards to walk along in low lying areas, but it is still incredibly muddy after a rain.

It was pleasant here. Couple other cars but never saw other people after the parking lot. Nice walk and conversation with my son. Just the peaceful afternoon I was needing.

A great place to hang around you can also spot some nudist walking around the forest and near the river

All community BREC parks close at 10pm. To do anything after you would need permission from the BREC Commission. http://www.brec.org/index.cfm/page/ParkRules
