My wife who is a veteran was in the library today (October 1st 2022) where she often goes to study and bring our son. The employee at the kids area verbally attacked my wife for having her service dog. Violating her rights. I will be filing a formal complaint.

The librarians are great and really helpful.

I was told that I would have to pay 57.00 or so for a library card because I was not considered in the district. This is crazy because I live in Shiloh literally down the street. Take me less than 5 min to get to the library from my house. A couple of weeks ago I went to the Belleville library downtown and was told that I had to come here because I wasn’t in their district and that drive is 20 minute drive. Come on now!!!!! 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ I just want a library card and should not have to pay 57.00 or so for it.

I opted to visit this facility for passport services instead of the library blocks from my home. The one near me is a disaster and cluttered mess! It was such an excellent decision because this facility is nice, clean, open, bright, and better than any of that was the employees. They were all pleasant. Stephanie, the one who's doing passport services, is a genuinely enjoyable person to be around. I had to stop by twice and each time she was so kind and easy to talk to. I'll also say this library is very accepting of the LGBTQIA+ community and that's also very lovely. While in today, I even saw something for a diaper drive - where you can donate diapers at numerous locations and pick them up right at the library if you need them. I love that!

Thanks for your question Jennifer. Like Greg said, you need a card from basically any public library in Illinois to checkout materials. You can use our computers, attend events, etc., without a card. Hope that helps answer your question. Take care!
