One of the best parts of the Sleeping Bear Dunes experience is kayaking on the Crystal River. This was our family's fourth trip to Glen Arbor and we could not wait to get back on the Crystal River. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The river is beautiful, meandering, and has plenty of pockets of shade. It is still a smart idea to apply some sunscreen and bug spray. However, this will be one of the most enjoyable rides of your life...especially if you get to "shoot the tube"!

We capped off our trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes with a canoe trip at Crystal River Outfitters. Overall, our trip was great! The staff was friendly and happy to help and the equipment was well taken care of. The only issue we had was feeling a little misled by the website. When searching for a canoe livery as out of towners, there are several to choose from, and Crystal River seemed to be the most modern and professional. We were traveling with our two-year-old son and my parent who are in their upper 60s. The website made no mention of the three canoe portages or the shallow spots where we would have to get out and push our canoes. My dad fell twice getting in and out of the canoes and we had a tough time getting our canoe across busy roads while keeping our son safe. I just wish the website was more upfront about some of the challenges we would face on the river. The first we heard of this was in the van on the way to the drop off, so there was no turning back. The water was clean and clear, the views were stunning, and we had a nice time, but I hope the company can provide a better warning for people who may have young young kids or older folks with some mobility challenges to help make the trip more predictable.

We brought our own kayaks and used Crystal River Outfitters for shuttle service and had a great experience. They helped us unload our kayaks from the car and told us all we needed to know about the river. Friendly and fast service without a reservation.

This was a really fun trip! Crystal River made the entire experience fast and simple, and the 2.5hrs on the water was super fun! I highly recommend this, especially if you have children that want to try kayaking. Plus, this is right in the heart of charming Glen Arbor, so after some sun and water, you can stroll the shops and restaurants and enjoy Michigan summers to the fullest!

Hi Patti, Yes, we rent cross country skis and snow shoes. You can visit us online at https://crystalriveroutfitters.com or call 231-334-4420 for more information. Thank you for your inquiry.
Our Crystal River trip takes 2-3 hours! Looking forward to seeing you!
Thanks for your inquiry! As of July 22, 2019, the Crystal River is currently running at 73 cfs which is quite high for the Crystal River as we recently had a large rainstorm. The weather looks dry going forward so mosquitoes should not be an issue, but we do sell bug spray which always alleviates that. Please email or call with any questions!
Yes! We are happy to shuttle your boats for $10 per boat. You will meet at our shop and we will load your boats on our trailers. We will then drive you and the boats to the head of the Crystal River. You then paddle back 2-3 hours and end up at our shop/your car. Please keep in touch with any other questions!
Yes, we carry a variety of styles and sizes! Come on in!
We stayed at Indigo Bluffs. Very nice, Wi-Fi was not good but that's my only complaint.
