I don't appreciate my insurance went that high, now I'm paying 220$ extra for the payment of six months.
Amelia Rullo
Really disappointed. This insurance is really expensive for no reason. And when I was told by my DVM that Root needed to provide proof of my insurance, Root said they would take care of it. They didn’t. When I asked about it again after I got a letter from these DMV saying it wasn’t taken care of, Root said they would reach out to the DMV but then changed their mind and said I needed to do it. Ridiculous. I reached out to them weeks ago to figure this out and now I only have a few days left to figure this out on my own, no help from Root, or I will be fined. Think I will need to switch my car insurance provider.

It’s great thanks

Terrific customer service, as always. Easy, convenient, informative. Had moved briefly to a state where Root has yet to insure vehicles. Great to be back!
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
They are trying to deny my claim because the Policeman used the wrong wording on the Police report. Then they never answer my emails and I had to dig around to find out they planned to deny my claim in the first place.
I’m having this same issue with someone that hit me on my motorcycle. I could of died and it’s been two weeks with no I mean no kind of estimate done!!! This company is a joke!!! They hire third party field adjusters and then wanted me to contact the body shop and the third party adjuster!! Are you kidding me? You’re the one that hired them your customer hit me!! I’m not doing any leg work for you!
My rates tripled in three months...no accidents...after I cancelled....they still charged me....now....they are charging .e for "merchandise" I never purchased. Watch your card activity.
I would reach out to them because they have been especially great with me
Usually in about a week but you can print them up or use your app as proof of insurance.
I would email their support. They do say they can tell if you are driving but idk how. I'd also offer to send them the trip receipt
So the fact I was driving safely in winter conditions gives me no credit?
Im not sure but with other insurance companies such as state farm 30 days
Hey, Sharon. We're sorry to hear of the trouble. We see that you've reached out to our customer support team and someone will be in touch with you soon.
Hi, Winfield. We appreciate your interest in Root. Just so you know, we don’t offer quotes over the phone or online. You will need to download the app, create a profile, take the test drive, and receive a quote after a few weeks, once we know you’re a good driver! The app and test drive are both free, and there is no obligation to accept the quote once you finish. Here’s a link to more information about Root: joinroot.com/help/
You are able to add as many cars as you wish directly in the app. —Jenna (Root Social Media Team)
Hi, Tamjid. Please keep in mind that *all* of your trips will be considered during the test drive. —Jenna (Root Social Media Team)
Insurance is cheap and certain states but as far as customers and claims is my biggest concern. I got to leave roots i only had them for a week now . Going to cancel by the end of this month
Depends on how old the vehicle is. I noticed that. Seems weird but doesnt affect quote
You cant. One of the many down sides of Root. You can only receive a quote for the vehicle that you are currently driving and it takes about 2-3 weeks of analyzing your driving data before you get your quote.
You have to file a claim through the app. Theres slide for filing a claim that says "file a claim" good luck with that though. They aren't the best for claims..
Not at all. Takes really less than a minute.
Yeah and its a long process. Communication is slow and done mostly through email. I noticed the average response turnaround is around 2 to 3 days for a single response so a conversation to resolve things takes a week plus. Be sure to immediately get a rental arrange but it most likely will not be done same day
I’ve never got my cards through mail it’s been over three months so I printed them off
You have to download the app and drive with it for a few weeks
I have minimal coverage and a perfect driving record, never any claims, have had geico since I started driving, and I still saved about $100/yr. Everyone is different and every area is different but its not pennies and its not like there is any cost to join.
I would definitely call customer service and speak to someone.
No not a live person only use the app on sat sun sux but they will contact u next business day
Hi, Raul. Yes, we are available in Utah. You can learn more about Root here: joinroot.com/quote
Edit: Hi, Tashel. How you drive is the primary factor we use to determine your rate, but it's not the only factor. You can learn about we price insurance here: bit.ly/HowRootPricesInsurance. Original Response: Hi, there. Root Insurance is different than other car insurers. We use an app to give you a quote based primarily on how you drive. Our prices are kept low because we only insure good drivers. This, of course, makes the quote process a bit different, too. Through the Root app, we look at your actual driving data for behaviors like braking, turns, and how much you drive to determine your rate. Feel free to learn more about how we price insurance here: bit.ly/HowRootPricesInsurance.
Hi, Brooke. We're glad to hear you're loving it and we appreciate the feedback. At this time, you are able to move your monthly payment up or back by up to 5 days except during your renewal month, but we'll keep this suggestion in mind. Thanks so much!
Hi, Emmanuel. If you’re driving a rental car anywhere in Canada, the United States, or the US territories, you’re covered by your Root policy. Please note, we can only provide the same coverage you purchased on your own vehicle. In other words, if you only have liability on your covered car, you’ll only have liability on your rental. In this case, you may want to purchase additional coverage from the rental car company for any damage you may cause to the vehicle (otherwise you could end up paying out of pocket). It’s important to know that Roadside Assistance does not apply to a rental vehicle—you may want to discuss this service with your rental company.
Hey, Troy. We certainly understand that many drivers can't avoid driving late at night. That's why your driving hours are only one of several factors that weigh into your final score. As long as you're driving safely and smoothly, you'll be fine.
Hi, Queen Rinda. Right now, we do not offer GAP coverage. If that ever changes though, we'll be sure to let you know.
Depends on circumstances.
They usually test drive you for about a week of the 30 days
It takes a couple of weeks. Make sure you check out the badges/accomplishments in the app. You get points for those and they give you info. You will be monitored for several trips and then you will be ready to see your quote. It is worth the wait !!! They are the Best !! I cant tell you how much of a blessing they have been to me. Besides an incredible rate thats saving me like 50 a month, the coverage is like way more than what I had. And customer service are real people who care working for a company who has your back...I AM So happy I found them...Be patient, I know its hard but you will be glad you did! Unless of course your a horrible driver..if so, sorry...
Hey, Debbie. California’s insurance laws are different than the laws in other states. We are not allowed to offer rates based on telematics (the app technology that measures driving behavior). For that reason, customers in California do not take the test drive.
Hi, Douglas. Roadside Assistance is included with every Root policy (unless you live in California where it is an optional coverage). You can contact Roadside Assistance directly in the app by going to File a Claim at the bottom of the home screen. Choose Roadside Assistance to be connected to Swoop, our preferred roadside service provider. Eligible services under $100 are covered for vehicles on your policy, up to three incidents per 6-month policy term per vehicle. Feel free to visit our site to learn more about the coverages we offer: joinroot.com/coverage. Typically towing is a service offered as part of Roadside Assistance.
You need the app to download it. And followed along with test. And pay for it first to make it work.
Hi, Michael. Unless you reside in California, you will need to take the test drive. Feel free to learn more here: joinroot.com/test-drive
Hey, Cathy. Roadside Assistance is included with every Root policy (unless you live in California where it is an optional coverage). Hi, Dennis. A lot goes into that decision on the data analysis end, but the short answer is that we analyze the motion patterns from your phone sensors. There are really distinct movement patterns for driver vs. passenger and car vs. other forms of transportation. You can find more information about it here: bit.ly/RootDriverPassenger
Realistically 2 to 4 weeks. You can try calling them and talk to a supervisor and call your card company sometimes that can speed the process up.
Hey, Kayla. The test drive is all based in your app so that we can understand how you drive—regardless of the vehicle. That way, you won't need to test drive for each vehicle. You can learn more about the test drive here: joinroot.com/test-drive
Hi, King. We're getting there as soon as possible! Each state is regulated differently, but we’re heading there soon. If you sign up for our email list, we'll shoot you an email as soon as we get to NC: joinroot.com/availability.
From my personal experience I went from 136 a month to 170 a month within 6 months I'm switching to progressive
Hey, George. How you drive is the primary factor we look at, and we look at other industry-standard factors, too. Feel free to learn more here: bit.ly/HowRootPricesInsurance.
Hi, Jaime. We can't advise you to take the test drive without being covered, as it is illegal to drive without insurance. We would advise getting a policy elsewhere that has an easy cancellation policy to cover you while you take the test drive. Hope that makes sense. That said, we offer a model that provides coverage during the test drive, and once you download the app and create your account, we’ll let you know if you’re eligible.
Email them. They respond very quickly.
I got mine about 3 weeks after I first started and about a week after renewal. Most states are fine with the card on your phone
I have Root with 2 cars but I don't think there is a limit
You probably should speak to someone at customer service about this
It varies. Once you apply, the process will take up to 3 weeks. Within that time, you will be monitored via mobile location. And from that data you will given a quote based on that data. Once the offer is given, you can either accept the suggested packages, or customize your own plan based on your needs. I did look at other companies after I got this insurance, so far this is the cheapest plan for what I was needing and wanting. Side note: during the initial process, avoid being in cars that speed...
Hey, Vicki and Sharon. One member of your household will need to complete the test drive, which requires a compatible smartphone. Let us know if you have any other questions!
You won't lose it.
You'll receive paperwork and Confirmation and you will have your cards digital
Just redownload the app and your information to pop up
In Root's app, you go to view insurance card and there is an option to have Root send them to you.
Hi, Chris. We'd recommend you read the terms and conditions of each policy as there are stipulations on what would or would not be covered, and which policy would be used first in the event of a loss.
You don't get a quote for 2 to 3 weeks
Hi, KMX 6013! Our NAIC number is 10974.
I have to admit I believe the app has some flaws I'll be sitting not riding and it's crunching numbers what I've done after I paid it I uninstall the app. And just screenshot the picture of my cards
Edit: Thanks, Michael. Yes, you are able to enter your permit number when signing up. Original Response: Hi, Shamar. You are able to enter your permit number, but please be sure to observe your state's traffic laws regarding driving while permitted.
Hi, Joshua. Unfortunately, we don’t have a great solution for ambulance drivers, police officers, mail delivery personnel, truck drivers and other people who drive work vehicles. At this point, every driving trip you take will be counted toward your score. We’re working hard to figure this out, though, since we know that people in driving professions are probably very good drivers! However, we encourage you to take the test drive anyway! Many people have been surprised at how good their quote is—even with their work trips included.
Hey, Eric. We're jumping through hoops to get countrywide as fast as we can. Each state is regulated differently, but we’re heading your way soon. In the meantime, if you sign up for our email list, we’ll let you know as soon as we get to your state: joinroot.com/availability.
Hey, Kevin and Amanda. Right now we're focused on excelling in the personal auto insurance industry and don't offer any other types of coverages, including homeowner's or renter's policies. If that ever changes, though, we'll be sure to let you know!
Hey, Lashonda. If you are referring to our Day One model (more here: joinroot.com/help/day-one), please know that you'd receive a prorated refund for any unused premiums should you choose to cancel.
Hey, Trick Tech. We only offer personal automobile insurance at this time. Hope that helps! — Root Social Media Team
You can't adjust your moving violations without legal assistance.
Do it though the app
I'm not sure! However if you don't like the rate they provide they will refund your money for etc.
Hey, Trick Tech. Feel free to place it wherever you prefer as the app can tell when you're driving vs. riding as a passenger.
Hey, Deaira. Yes—you can enter your permit number in the license number field. Please be sure to observe your state laws for driving with a permit!
William, this is just where the inconsistency of their program starts. If you chose to proceed with them, expect increases every 6 months despite your perfect driving. Thats what happened with me. Quite disappointing really.
If you ever need to ask about your rates, you can reach customer support via the Root app.
Actually, they give you a low rate regardless of how you drive. This has been tested with multiple friends and family. They lure you in with a low rate, then raise it every 6 months by $10. They start off by telling you that its a demographic raise based on market increases. This means that they are covering high liability drivers that match your age and gender. You will recieve a $15 renewal increase if at any time you delete the app or deny its ability to use your location. This is why i am choosing to leave Root after 2 years of continual business with them. They finally managed to raise my rate enough to equal out to Allstate. If youre looking for cheap and affordable temporary insurance, Root is a good idea. But if youre looking for a company with consistency and good customer service, i would strongly reccomend a different insurance company. That is just my opinion from my experience with them. They usually get good ratings from new customers that see the lower rates, thats all.
Nope. It's random.
Give customer support a call.
You can get it on Root insurance card, on my card it is bottom right of insurance card. You can also find it on local DMV website.
Send the pdf versions of policy from the app to email and get it printed, simple!
Driving Score has a button on bottom scroll of app, this is after you get the quote.
If your vehicle is totaled you or your loan company receive the actual cash value of the vehicle. There is paper work to complete and all funds go to the titles owner only.
Hey, John! As Serenity Alma Hayse mentioned, you can access your insurance card immediately after purchasing a policy right in the Root app. We also mail your insurance card out to your address on file.
😂😂😂 better off asking to call E.T. The app lets you make changes to your policy. But as of yet I havent found a phone number to talk to a real person about an existing policy, but by golly they'll let you talk to someone about starting one.
Hey, Jedidiah! There's only one way to find out, and the first step is to download the app and test drive. You can download the app here: bit.ly/DownloadRoot.
We think so, Rhonda. 😊 We started Root because we were frustrated with the insurance industry. Our entire approach is to be as fair, affordable, and human as possible. We’d love the opportunity to show you how car insurance should be. Check us out here: joinroot.com/press
Hey, Mark! Our phone number is posted on our business page, and you are also welcome to contact our customer support team directly through the app when logged in.
Right now we're focused on dominating the personal auto insurance industry and don't offer any other types of coverages, including homeowner's or renter's policies, but we'll let you know if that changes in the future!
No info on the web? I'm guessing no!
Hey, Elijah. We insure good drivers of any age. In fact, teenagers who are good drivers can get much lower rates with Root, because most traditional insurance companies rate solely based on demographics—leaving teenagers with the most expensive rates. At Root, we take into account how teenagers actually drive, so they can save some serious $$$.
You can get a printer and scanner and back out any of the information and put in what you need
Yes
I drive for work as well, though not a truck, and thought it'd ruin whatever rate I should've gotten considering I put 4-5x the miles I would for personal driving. They still crushed my Geico rate by almost 60%. I'd recommend just giving the test drive a shot and see what happens. My guess is they weigh far heavier on your driving skill than miles driven.
I have had no issues.
Yes.. anytime any place... Just make a call and they are there to assist..
Not sure. I believe they may. Contact their customer service by email.
I just got a quote coverage is same as I have now but I was told I would get $25 for test driving and getting quote but I dont see it
I went from paying $143.62 a month to $69.12. Very much worth downloading the app.
The nearest location is in Columbus OH but I live in Indiana and we have them for insurance.
It does not cost anything to cancel a car and add another. I believe you have to add the new car before you can remove the original car. Depending on the specifics of the car (eg. Safety features), your premium may go up or down. If it lowers the pre.uum you would get a refund, and if your on a monthly plan and it raises the premium your payments would go up at a prorated amount.
It's risky but you could drive as long as you don't drive like a maniac or during holidays, I doubt you'll be pulled over lol
Yes, you can. You have to email them that you want to add it, as they will not process your request over the phone.
No, not homeowners ,they cut my insurance bill in half, four kids.... If you have an I phone sometimes it's a pain in the but because it has a hard time reading all the data.... If you don't keep your phone charged I phones will shut down mobile data then it don't read.... But great company so far.... I'm on my first renewal.... And it went down 30 bucks more....
You put your vehicle in first so I'm sure they take that into consideration. Besides, I'm pretty sure they use your gps data more than anything. There isn't any risk to trying to qualify though so I don't see why you shouldn't just try it. If you think their data is wrong you can always email them and request they manually review it.
