From what I remember you have to get a permit. For major corporation stores especially. SOMETIMES privately owned Mom and pop's stores will let it slide. So you go to your school's main office, and ask for work permit forms. You then fill out the area's you're suppose to fill out, then you have to have a parent/guardian sign it. You then take it back to school to get it approved. There might be a couple steps I missed like maybe the employer has to fill out parts of that form, and I think it has to be renewed every school year.
