Many of the first Christians were Jewish, and their faith dictated that they not work, or travel beyond certain distances, on the Sabbath. The Sabbath was a day of rest, made for man (Jesus Himself addressed that issue, saying the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath), by God. So the early Christians rested and followed their rules, and met with fellow Christians the following day. The Bible never says to make it a first day, or to make it the Seventh Day. It doesn't even say that you must worship on the Sabbath, for it is a day of rest by definition. So Christians have a history of meeting in fellowship the day after the Sabbath, and, because most are not Jewish, they're not bound by Old Testament, Jewish law. Indeed, they may eat pork, get tattooed, and are not bound by O.T. health codes. The calendar is a human creation, where does it say in the Bible we must worship on any set day or that the day of rest, or Sabbath, must be on a certain weekday?
I would also say, a loving God would rather see His people united, for the harvest is great and the laborers are few, rather than arguing over religious points. I just don't believe He would reject worship on Monday, Tuesday, or any day, simply because it is not the seventh day of the week. He would rather us worship Him thru word and deed, and yes, keep the Sabbath day holy. Holy means set apart, different, not common, and a Sabbath is a period of rest. As long as we keep a day set aside as special, and worship Him thru all we say and do, will He reject us because our day of rest is Sunday? Or maybe we have to work Sunday and we take a Sabbath on Tuesday. Either way, it is fulfilling the command to Remember the Sabbath by making it Holy.
