This is a great resource that more people should know about and support for agriculture, horticulture, and nutritional information.

Read the label. The label will possibly mention other target pests and/or how to avoid killing beneficial insects.

For Orient, Long Island, I would like a recommended best source for on-line buying of bare-rooted, hearty, disease resistant apple and cherry trees for planting this Spring. Thank you, Elizabeth Thompson

While CCE cannot recommend specific retailers, there are several nurseries within NYS and New England that sell bare-root fruit stock. The deadline is approaching for getting orders in since most nurseries start shipping in early April. Below is a list of apple varieties recommended by Dale for Long Island; the nursery will also be able to assist with pest-resistant suggestions for any fruit species. You could additionally go to your local retail garden center and see what they sell and talk with a horticulturalist. I'm assuming this is for a home garden, so you can also reach out to Sandra and Alice at the Home Hort Diagnostic Lab for additional information.
