The NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is probably the ONLY government office in NYC that is run efficiently. From my experience, they are an office that you hope you never have to deal with, but if you unfortunately have to, they aren't just helpful but also very respectful. Keep up the good work!

A seriously professional organization.

Very questionable hiring process at this organization that somebody should look into. I have made sure to save records of what they do if anybody wants to know, simply email me. Whenever you submit an application indicating that you are from a specific race, and even provide proof of the necessary qualifications they still turn you down, if you indicate any other race on the application with the same qualifications they give you a call. I couldn't understand it at first but now it makes sense.

No. Cremations are arranged through the funeral home of your choice. The office is not allowed to refer a funeral home, you must find your own.
For a missing person you would have to reach out to the NYPD. They would be the agency that would advise you if the medical examiner is in custody of her remains.
The OCME will allow for a direct family member to make an in person identification. Besides that, viewings would have to be coordinated with a funeral director of your choosing after the medical examiner releases the body. Note that not all bodies that come into the medical examiner are autopsied. When cause of death is obvious, there are times when only an external examination or partial autopsy is performed.
The New York City Medical Examiner's office will not be able to provide you with this information. For this, you'd need to reach out to the office of vital records. If you know the date of birth, it may be easier for you to conduct a low cost online search. Best of luck!
Complete this form, https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/ocme/downloads/pdf/NYC_OCME_Autopsy_Request_Form.pdf, and mail it in to the address on the top of the form. The report may not be finalized yet.
Im sorry but i dont know the answer to your question as i do not work there. You can go to www.nyc.gov/site/ocme and check the faq for info. Sorry I couldn't help you.
Are you sure this was a legitimate call? Someone claiming to be a detective telling you a family member passed but not leaving his name, phone number or police precinct info or any information about the incident? Maybe contact the local police precinct in your brother's neighborhood.
I can tell you in an unofficial capacity that if you are Next of Kin, you can make a request using the "Autopsy Report Request Form" on the OCME website.
That title is MVO you have to take an exam
The Agency has many positions requiring all sorts of degrees. I would check the NYC jobs site and search for OCME to see if there is anything that interests you
People tell me if this is crazy
Gd morning, the agency normally has a National Forensic Science Week. Reach out to Assistant Dir. Of Forensic Biology Mark Desire 212-323-1215 to see what you would need to do. I hope this helps
