I met Carrie and Andy Sears (the founders of Blue Boat) at a conference and was impressed with how much they care about their staff, their client and their community. Blue Boat is my go to for referring for mental health services in Columbus.

I have known Andy and Carrie Sears for over 10 years now, and they are both committed to the well being and success of the clients they work with. Andy is such a genuine human being with incredible experience in his background...this empowers him to be one of the best counselors I have ever been around. As their team expands with additional counseling staff, Blue Boat Counseling continues to be the place to go for mental health support in Columbus, OH. As a mental health therapist that works in a PHP/IOP treatment setting here in the Central Ohio I refer a large number of clients for outpatient services. I refer a significant number my patients to Andy because of his respectful, professional and compassionate approach to their treatment.

Let's face it - everyone's busy. It's pretty easy to find a reason not to do something, especially if it's good for us (like healthy eating habits and exercise). But if you're experiencing mental health symptoms that aren't getting better, seeking treatment will only save you time in the long run - not to mention feeling relief and like you're getting your life back. So we encourage you to take a hard look at your calendar and figure out where you can carve out an hour a week to take care of you. We're confident you'll be glad you decided to prioritize yourself over something else on your to-do list.
The short answer is 'maybe' as this is highly dependent on your specific health insurance plan. But we can provide an answer from the Blue Boat Counseling perspective - after very careful research and consideration, we've decided not to participate directly with insurance panels. This means Blue Boat Counseling is considered an out-of-network provider and cannot bill them on your behalf. There are many reasons for this, which we explore further on our website here: https://blueboatcounseling.com/fees/. That being said, you're in control of your mental health care with us. It is your choice to involve your insurance company or not. If you find that after contacting your insurance company, they will reimburse you based on your plan for out-of-network benefits, we're happy to provide you with the necessary billing statement to do so. And we accept HSA/FSA cards for payment, some of which would apply to your deductible if you submit.
Yes, we do. Blue Boat Counseling has mental health therapists licensed in the state of Ohio; therefore, we can only see clients who live in the state of Ohio. But you don't have to live in the Columbus, Ohio area (where our office is located) to receive online counseling from us. We consider online therapy to be video sessions and, in some cases where video isn’t an option, sessions by phone. Online therapy services are offered by computer – laptop or desktop – with camera capabilities or an app on your phone, and your therapist can walk you through the steps to get started. You can read more on our website here: https://blueboatcounseling.com/online-therapy/
We offer anxiety therapy, depression therapy, trauma therapy, marriage and couples counseling, family therapy, teen therapy and counseling for military and veterans.
