My mom lives in assisted living in the Bronx. I am in Manhattan. Her doctors are in Manhattan. And so as you can imagine getting her to and from is complicated. Especially because my mom has the beginnings of dementia. At every fork in the road, with every car service disaster, with every crazy thing that’s happened an aid from Right at Home has been with us the whole way. Consistently kind, patient, thoughtful and caring no matter who it is they are on time to collect my mother vigilant about her personal safety, and escort her home all without trouble. I can worry and be upset about a lot of things. But I am never worried concerned or even the least bit troubled when I dial these wonderful ladies and get an aid to help my most precious cargo come to Manhattan for a doctor appointment. I’m so grateful I have the opportunity in this forum to sing their praises. You cannot go wrong.

Veterans and their surviving spouses who require the regular aid and attendance of another person for the activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, etc., may qualify for a special “Aid and Attendance” (A&A) benefit, in addition to their monthly pension. This benefit is available to honorably discharged veterans and their surviving spouses who meet eligibility criteria. Assets are included in the equation for eligibility, with exclusions for personal property such as the veteran’s home or vehicle.
