The Good: they were willing to accept my mother with a feeding tube. Most nursing homes will not accept patients with a feeding tube. We did get a private room. There are very very FEW goodhearted and caring employees, such as the concierge Tiffany and one of the cleaning ladies. Longer visitation hours. The Bad: Understaffed, overworked, INCOMPETENT AND UNCARING workers. My mother's health declined during her stay, and they gave her an UNKNOWN INJECTION WITHOUT MY APPROVAL and has still yet told me what it was. Yes, that is illegal. I asked the charge nurse and her response was "I wasn't there on Saturday." So? You're their boss, go find out. As you can see, costumer service skills is not a specialty there. On the day my mom arrived, the social worker said it is not their job to make the patients happy. I was appalled at the lack of attempt. It's their way of saying, don't come with high expectations. Next, I met the charge nurse who dismissed the hospital recommendations for my mom's care, nutrition and ostomy care. My mom became more malnourished losing more weight each day. She was 50+ lbs there and she's 4' 9"! She looked like she was near death and screaming of hunger to the point she was delusional and then had no more energy to move. Her ostomy care was just awful. They dismissed my suggestions on using a different product because it kept leaking poop on her wound, but only started asking what was the hospital's ostomy product after they realized she had severe peristomal skin damage and infection. Their ignorance is bad enough but they weren't even willing to listen to patient or hospital's recommendations. Their arrogance will stop them from ever becoming a good facility to bring anyone to. If my mom continued to stay there, she'd just turn into a useless vegetable only good for insurance payment for the nursing home. No way will I settle for such a terrible condition for my mom. From day one they wanted us to change our insurance so they can collect more money from her and wanted her to go from short term care to long term care. HELL NO! I've never met such uncaring NP and doctor in my life. The charge nurse and doctor made an incorrect diagnosis of my mom's stoma and sent her back to the hospital, probably to get rid of us. Once we arrived back to the ER, all the doctors and nurses saw what terrible wound and ostomy care my mom had and told us NOT to go back, choose another rehab. Luckily my mom was able to swallow again, so we could finally discharge her to go home without a feeding tube! Under my care while following hospital recommendations, my mom's wound and ostomy is better. She is now moving and walking and gaining weight again. DO NOT COME HERE, but unfortunately I hear from paramedics and hospital staff and they are this bad in many places. Every family member I spoke with there also hate the place, but most feel like they have no other option but to send their loved ones to a nursing home. When I left, I no longer held my tongue at their rude staff. I told them the truth that everyone hates them there and they provide terrible care. This is for the short term care floor. Physical therapy was not very good there, too. If they saw the patient in bed, they'd just leave. They don't even bother moving the patient's arms or legs or do in-bed exercises with them.
