Being required about twice a year, my visits here have all been good experiences. The staff is friendly and quick to help while answering the, at times, confusing questions regarding taxes in West Virginia and more specifically Jefferson county. My visits here often coincide with one or both of the tax office several businesses down and the DMV. If needing an affidavit form to renew your car registration, be sure to come here first to save an extra trip to the DMV. I've had numerous times where I was needing to obtain paperwork and confirmation with the county assessor and tax office prior to moving forward with my business at the DMV. For those unsure of the office's location, it is within the city courthouse. You will need to go through a casual security checkout before being allowed further in past the entrance. The assessor's office is to the immediate right.

Looking back all things considered...Miss Angie is a good person and her crew are doing a fine job at doing hard one..I could not do it.and not many people would want too. The real problem in Jefferson county is an out of control board of education here..That is both arrogant and self serving ..School excess levy ..really now ...how much extortion money is enough ?

In the State of West Virginia, you are taxed on 60% of estimated re-sale value based on past market sales for real property. Personal property is 60% of blue book value. Both are multiplied by a tax rate which is set by the governing bodies (state, county, municipalities [incorporated towns], and county school board) and usually changes from tax year to tax year. The tax year (the year you are billed) runs from 1 July to June 30 meaning: Ex. TY 2022 for real property is based on 'valid sales' (not 'related individuals, not private/ non-advertised, not foreclosures, etc.) within a past time period of 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021.
Property taxes are paid at the Tax Office. This office is in the Magistrate Court building 110 N. George Street.
Fireworks are banned in City limits, but Police rarely enforce it ( unless you are being reckless or endangering life / property with them )
