The hotel was outstanding! Upon arriving we were offered fresh baked cookies and everything was already ready for our stay. Went up to our room and was amazed by its beauty and preservation, was able to escape from technology (for the most part, had our cell phones lol) and the peace and quiet was amazing. The next morning we walked into the dining hall and was immediately offered breakfast and fresh coffee which was also GREAT! The staff is SUPER polite and very friendly, if we werenβt in such a rush Iβd sit and talk with the receptionist all day :) Tavern for drinks and burgers are right across the street, the market which was extremely nice with good food is just a short walk ahead, and a beautiful scenery! 10/10 would recommend everyone to go here for a real getaway. Super happy and content with our stay, thank you guys for being so good to us π

We made a last minute booking on a Saturday evening when our previous plans for lodging had fallen through. (We had intended to camp along the Deschutes that night, but arrived too late to get a site) Debra graciously assisted us in selecting a room and even gave us some homemade chocolate chip cookies after check-in! The hotel was beautiful, service was 10/10 and the history of the hotel was fun to learn. Though we had intended to camp, we were absolutely thrilled to stay at the Balch, and will definitely be returning someday.

One of the few historical places left without annoying modernity upgrades. You can open the windows to let fresh small-town country air in, use a real key in the door lock and bathe in a real claw foot tub. There is no place like it--they fix a wonderful dinner for you even if you're alone and the only one there, the intimate dining room is gorgeously decorated as well as lovely outside dining in a spectacular garden setting with a view of Mt Hood, the rooms are super comfortably appointed with beautiful antiques, there's a great selection of wine and beer on tap, the staff is the kindest ever. And then, there's a spa that you can walk to in your pajamas where you can get a healing treatment with Claire, who is absolutely the best. In short, if you want some serious spoilage for yourself and peace, healing, and serenity, this is the place.

We are telling everyone about our stay at the Balch Hotel. We got so lucky with this last minute booking. A sunset view of Mt Hood across a snowy field! Such a lovely place with so many small details and period charm. We enjoyed our meals, wine and a game of cribbage too, and then explored some local hiking.
