I doubt the key is inside the car, since you are able to lock the car with the spare key. Another way to confirm, start the car, take away the spare key while engine is running, then close the doors. If you hear a series of beep sound, that confirms there is no key inside the car. If there is no sound, then there is a key inside the car.
