I LOVED IT , MY NAME IS ANGEL CRUZ AND MY EXPERIENCE HERE WAS AMAZING. I'M FROM NEWARK N.J. AND WENT ALL THE WAY TO P.A. TO FIND A PLACE AS THIS ONE , WHICH WAS LIKE HOME TO ME AND WOULD BE TO ANYONE ELSE IN NEED OF GENUINE HELP. THE WORKERS ARE LIKE FAMILY MEMBERS AS SOON AS YOU ENTER THE DOORS YOU'RE SURROUNDED BY TRUE BROTHERS WHO'VE REALLY BEEN WHERE YOU HAVE. THIS PLACE SAVED MY LIFE , BUT THE ONLY MISTAKE I MADE WAS THAT I WASN'T READY TO LEAVE JUST YET. AFTER 120 DAYS I THOUGHT I HAD IT DOWN PACKED AND WAS DESPERATE TO BE IN MY WIFES COMPANY, WHICH WAS ALL BACKWARDS AND HELL CAME DOWN ON ME TEN FOLD. I WISH IT WAS AS EASY AS THE FIRST TIME TO GO BACK BECAME I'M SURELY IN NEED OF THERE HELP. BUT CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE. BUT TRULY SPEAKING FROM THE HEART THIS IS THE PLACE IF YOU NEED THAT HAND TO PULL YOU OUT THAT MISERABLE LONELY GUTTER. JUST DON'T LEAVE WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT ALL FOR THE WRONG REASONS. STICK AND STAY TILL GOD LETS YOU KNOW IT'S YOUR TIME. MAY GOD BLESS US ALL, AND MUCH LOVE TO ALL SELF HELP EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS. I APOLGIZE FOR VENTING BUT I HAD TO SPEAK ABOUT IT. #BLESS UP

Self Help is aptly named- it is a great resource for the client IF he wants to make a change in his life. The facility is not luxurious but does provide a solid inpatient program, a 90 day halfway house option and a 3rd floor where clients can stay and rent a room after completing both the inpatient and halfway house programs. There are nice touches like a decent gym, a computer lab, small library, common areas with cable TV and even a small "store" with snacks, toiletries and drinks. It is, however, a former mental hospital and very much still feels like an institution. There are probably about 175 clients in the main building. So, if you come to SH be prepared to deal with many personalities (staff included). Overall I think this is a good program for someone who is ready to make a change in his life- you are given the space, time and help to build a solid base for recovery.
liberty for all
Greatest olcep I've been to.

By far the best rehab I've ever been to.

Yes- after completing the first floor (usually about a 30 or so day inpatient program) clients move on to the second floor. On the second floor the clients are in the half way house program; at this stage the client pays no rent for 90 days while he continues working with his primary counselor and small group. However he is able to leave the property and works an outside job, attends outside AA/NA meetings, goes to social events, etc. After those 90 days the client has the option to move up to the third floor- where he WILL pay rent and share a room. If the client does not want to stay at self help his primary counselor will assist him in finding appropriate sober housing options.
No...its against the law, they can't even let the police know if a person is here
After 30 days they give it away
Yes
No but they will soon
No
They have a phone but you have to pay for your calls.. and if you mess up theyll kick you out no questions asked even if they know you not ready that's why my son been burried for 7 months and his paper work clearly said he wasnt ready and he will relapse..
