Excellent staff that goes above and beyond taking care of the people that live there.

Let me preface this by saying I’m an RN, so very familiar with “the system”. Anyhow, my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and was declining rapidly, from living independently to unable to get out of bed, within weeks. She chose not to be treated for the CA (she was 91), but was in an out of St. Joes for pneumonia and low O2. The first time she left St. Joes, she went to The Grand in Chittenango. Overall, that was a scary, disastrous experience - please, do not send your family there! The second time she left St. Joes she went to Loretto. At this point she was on hospice care. They put us in a room at the end of the 4th floor. From the start to the end, all the staff was amazing. They respected our wishes, and took care of all our questions and comments. They respectfully waited quietly in the room with myself and another family member while my grandmother passed, letting us know they were there if we needed anything. After it was over and the funeral home came, staff members escorted my grandmother out of the building. I wanted to write this review because the staff was so amazing - and I wanted them to know how much they are appreciated. Their jobs are incredibly difficult, and they really impressed me.

My mother was there, I just removed her Nov 2021 because I couldn't take the incompetence anymore, this is a horrible place to have to stay. SOME decent nurses, admin was clueless, my mom's social worker was always taking PTO. I had to get NY State Attorney General involved and he was livid! I finally drove 4 hrs to get her and took her home. I WOULDN'T WISH A STAY HERE ON MY WORST ENEMY! BEWARE!...PLEASE.

Absolutely horrendous! My mother was discharged to Loretto for rehabilitation after surgery. Let me start by saying that this is more of an outdated geriatric care facility rather than a rehabilitation center. The treatment from the staff from the very beginning was unprofessional and felt unwelcoming. It took 4 1/2 hours after we arrived to be acknowledged and that was after I had to ask twice to speak to someone about admission. We sat in her room and the dinning hall while waiting for the admission nurse and during that time we were never greeted by anyone. A few things that caught my attention right away was old dried up urine on the toilet seat in her room, the majority of the nursing staff were sitting around on their cell phones, everyone was in a wheelchair and I could hear someone screaming for help from inside their room that was located down the hall. Fast forward to 3 1/2 hours since we got there, I asked a nurse when my mother would be able to receive her pain medication as she was in pain. In response, the nurse slammed her pen down and answered me with the nastiest attitude, stating; “she has to wait until her orders are put in and as you can see I am busy right now.” Mind you, this was the first time that I was spoken to from a staff member after patiently waiting since our arrival. We finally met with the admission nurse and signed the paperwork and I regretfully left at 8:30pm. I was assured that my mother would be taken care of and that she would receive her PM meds by 11PM, including the pain medication that we asked the rude nurse for earlier. Fast forward to the next morning, I woke up to 2 voicemails during the night from my mother hysterically crying because she was in so much pain, they never gave her-her PM meds, that included the pain medication that I had asked the nurse for the day before, she never received her antibiotics that she was taking for pneumonia, or the steroids that she was on to prevent brain swelling. After speaking to my mother at 7AM she was still crying and in pain. Here it is the next morning and she still had never received her PM medications. My mother laid there all night suffering! She also had to toilet herself without assistance because she was being ignored. Needless to say I was there by 8AM and she was discharged immediately! The amount of unprofessionalism inside of this “skilled” nursing facility is absolutely appalling. My mother is 65 yrs young and very well with it, yet this was how her and I were treated. I fear for the safety of those who are a little more vulnerable and less independent. After what I had witnessed and the lack of treatment she received, I would never consider Loretto for any skilled nursing or rehabilitation for a loved one ever again.

Most residents don't have a phone in their room. You could call front desk and they will connect you to the correct floor to speak to the patient.
