Site for a good photo admiring the Van Der Rohe buildings and the sculpture that adorns it.

The modern piece of artwork was beautiful but the protest we were going to was over.

New to Chicago, my first time here was today at the 'March For Our Lives' national protest. There's an amazing modern sculpture by Alex Calder called 'Flamingo' that has witnessed countless inspiring moments in the city's history. Beautiful weather and a lovely crowd made for a great day!

Federal Plaza is nice place if you like modern architecture. Many near by buildings outside of the plaza are older and there is a distinct juxtaposition between modern and older architecture. As the name implies the Federal Government operates the plaza and several of the large black buildings bordering it. Due west is the financial area of the city. A block or two North are several government buildings for the city and county. South and East are several downtown campuses of local universities. This is a central area of downtown and is a good rally or meet up point. Several mass transportation stations are near by, essentially all CTA "El" lines are near by. There are many near by bus stations as well. The Sears Tower is only a few blocks west of here. A few more blocks to the West and North is the Chicago River. A few blocks to the East are Grant Park and Lake Michigan. Directly south of the Plaze is one of the oldest skyscrapers in the world. This is a wonderful place to start an adventure of Chicago
