If the Mandatory Meals aren't up to USDA standards, as determined annually by a registered dietician's certification, and if a medical doctor requests of management in writing a medical exemption because a resident's condition or disability requires a special diet (with diet attached), the resident has a right to the exemption. The money paid to the building owners above the cost of rent for meals they can't eat will then be freed up so that the resident can take control of what and when she eats. According to HUD code of federal regulations, management should tell you how to get a medical exemption

I'm in my fourth year here and I feel incredibly lucky to be here. My roomy one-bedroom apartment with a deck overlooks the Clark Fork River. My rent is based on my income, with deductions for medical, dental, prescription and insurance costs. If I were not living here, I could no longer afford to live in Missoula. My neighbors are friendly and supportive, so I am effortlessly part of a community, with a host of activities in which I can participate or not, as I choose. Federal law mandates that one meal a day be provided and that I must pay for it, so a four-course hot dinner is served every night, and I can eat it or not as I choose. I love it here!
