Hello Olivia, There are generally several options to replace a single tooth. These include a dental implant, a fixed bridge or a removable option, which are occasionally reserved for more temporary replacement. Some things to consider when choosing among options are a patient's health, the health of adjacent teeth, or the mouth overall, any other missing teeth present, esthetic needs and chewing function. In general, all things being equal, the most natural and long-lasting tooth replacement is the dental implant, which has numerous benefits over the other options.
A general answer for any denture, upper or lower, full or partial, is to be sure the fit and bite are adjusted correctly, and a reline performed if necessary to improve the fit. I hope I'm safe to assume you are asking about full/complete dentures, and maybe even the lower since one of the most common questions we receive is specific to a poorly retained lower full denture that simply doesn't stay put. You’re not alone as these dentures are typically the most problematic. Here is where dental implants shine! Implants can be used to retain, support and stabilize dentures depending on the number placed, and are life changing for denture wearers. The security and comfort that can be experienced on a denture through implants, can lead to a level of confidence and chewing ability which approaches that of a natural dentition.
The short answer….yes. Unless you’re brushing and flossing over aggressively, healthy gums should not bleed. It should spark concern similarly as if your skin or scalp bled with normal pressure. It is a sign that something is wrong; most commonly for the gums is the presence of gum or periodontal disease. There are certainly other causes, but bleeding gums should prompt a professional evaluation.
Hello Samantha, Lumineers are a fantastic option when used for the right situation, meaning misaligned, but slightly small teeth. The reason being is that with the minimal or no tooth reduction design of Lumineers, they add to the size of your teeth. If done incorrectly, the teeth appear large and bulky. On our website Smile Gallery, Britanny’s case demonstrates the proper use of Lumineers which gives her a perfect result! http://www.michalskidmd.com/smile-gallery.html If you care to have Dr. Michalski discuss with you your best option and learn more of what you are looking for, please call our office and we can help set up a consultation.
It’s not uncommon for people to have fear and anxiety of going to the Dentist, and it often is a barrier to seeking care. Sedation is a game changer for those patients. There are a couple of options available depending on your concerns and needs, but it overall greatly helps people make it through their visits and treatment while being comfortable and relaxed.
Dr. Michalski does offer laser treatment for cold sores routinely. Treatment generally takes about five minutes or less, and is painless. They are best treated early as possible, typically once symptoms such as burning or tingling are felt. With early treatment many times the lesion will never appear, and if already present, the laser treatment will prevent the lesion form progressing and significantly cut down on healing time. Most often, areas treated with laser therapy never experience cold sores again.
