Great full service lawn and garden care!

Up until about a month ago, this would have been a four- or five-star review. However, after a horrible experience, we have been searching for a new landscaper (we found one who will be starting in September). I will never use them again, and I strongly recommend anyone who uses them have video surveillance installed to document any issues that you might have. We used Scape-Abilities for at least several years. We had them do weekly maintenance, spring and fall cleanups, "beautiful beds," reseeding, mulching, crabgrass treatments, and probably a few things I'm forgetting over the years. Everything was, for the most part, a la carte. They weren't outrageously priced, but they certainly weren't cheap either. They were, if nothing else, dependable. About a month ago, they came to do the "beautiful beds" service. When they left, my wife noticed a noise that she hadn't heard before. When I got home from work, I thought it sounded like running water. After searching the entire house for a leak, it turned out that a spigot that we never used on the outside of the house (it was hidden behind a relatively thick bush) had been broken, and there was a small lake forming on our property. I had a plumber come out (it was a Friday evening) on an emergency call, so there was a premium fee to cap the pipe at the source inside the house. I left a message for Scape-Abilities on Saturday, and I received a call back from them on Monday. I explained that the damage to the spigot was clearly a result of their crew. There was no leak before they came, and there was a broken spigot that was spewing water for hours after they left. I asked them to stand good for the emergency visit--not even to pay for the repair to the spigot--just to cover the cost of getting the pipe capped. The owner steadfastly refused. He said that there was no proof that it was caused by his crew. He came up with all sorts of ridiculous hypotheticals of what could have caused it--malicious kids on bikes, animals, etc.--and because I don't have surveillance video, I couldn't say anything besides what I said here--no leak before they came, big leak after they came--the thing speaks for itself. The plumbing bill was about $350. Our weekly cutting was $37. The additional services were billed hourly--so the "beautiful beds" service was $68/hour for 2.16 hours on July 2 (the date of the leak). The "organic plus" lawn treatment the previous month was an additional $85. Our July bill came to over the $350 we had been seeking. Basically, in order to make a customer happy, the owner could have eaten the month's payment. Instead, he chose to make ridiculous assertions and lose a customer. Edit: Whomever wrote the reply from the business either did not read my entire review or ignored the part that I had spoken with the owner already. I suppose I could add that I spoke several times with an employee who was sympathetic and understanding before speaking with the owner who told me in unambiguous terms that the company would not cover the plumbing bill in any way shape or form. (In fairness, I should mention that he offered me a $50 credit “just to make [you] happy,” which was completely unacceptable to me. I cannot see what further discussion would accomplish.

Excellent services all around and regular lawn mowing/maintenance has been reliably good, prompt and keeping the lawn looking very nice. The regular organic lawn treatment produces a deep and green appearance which has been first rate over the years. Steve is very responsive and pleasant to work with and understands all the yard related work beyond lawn maintenance. Very happy overall!

Steve from Scape-Abilities was creative & understood our vision for the backyard. We wanted something that pushed the boundaries of suburbia and mixed in an industrial element. Steve created a site so we could share ideas and then took that vision to the next level. We couldn’t be happier with the end product and his up lighting is on point. The team is meticulous. Very happy customers.

Questions & Answers

When is the best time to water my grass? Morning or night?

Scape-Abilities | Sep 29, 2021

The best time to water your lawn is early morning -- we would recommend between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. when there’s less sun and heat. If you can’t water in the early morning, then late afternoon, say between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. would be a good alternate time.

Should I collect my clippings or blow them on the grass?

In most cases, lawn clippings should be deposited right back onto the lawn. They’re full of nutrients the lawn can recycle and put to good use. Even leaves, to a certain extent, can be mulched a

When should I start lawn care in the spring?

Scape-Abilities | Sep 29, 2021

March is when the lawn care generally kicks off, as long as there isn’t snow on the ground. As soon as the grass starts to grow and the ground conditions are favorable, give the lawn its first cut of the year.
