Beautiful park with old growth forest. This is one of the hardest hikes I’ve done in Long Island. It’s a lot of inclines and declines right from the beginning of the trail. It’s not a long trail although you can continue onto other trails that will take you through a lot of other areas. If you’re looking for an easy Long Island, this isn’t it. The start to this trail will test your leg strength. This trail is more like a hike in the mountains than a hike on flat Long Island. I have never encountered a trail like this on the island before. Definitely feels more like a Catskills trail but not as long. If you’re looking for a hike that’s challenging but don’t want to drive upstate, this is a good one to try.
