Due to the large number of artists who have already applied, there are currently no plans to open the wait list. We wish there were more Westbeths in existence.
I'm sorry the waiting list for residential units is closed due to the amount of applicants who are already on the waiting list with regard to the apartments available. It may be at least a couple of years before it is opened again. Check the Westbeth.org website for updates. In the meantime, we are not accepting applications.
I’m sorry the Wait List was closed last year due to the overwhelming amount of applicants and the lengthy wait period. It’s a wonderful place to live in and we wish there were more affordable housing for artists.
I applied as well..but was not notified? Comedic actress: graduate of Temple University Mrs.Barbara "Simons"Martin
I’m sorry, the waiting list for all artists closed in May of last year. We are not sure when the waiting list will reopen as we received thousands of submissions.
Hi Ingrid, I believe Milda was engaged before she arrived in New York. From what I understand she had travelled across the country to meet a man whose son she had heard on the radio, but returned after almost being knocked down by a car. Later, she left her fiancé during their anniversary dinner when she felt compelled to seek out her true love on the viewing deck of the Empire State Building. Not much is known about what happened for some time after that. But years later she was discovered running a book shop, and once again engaged. From what we know she was engaging in some private contact with another man behind her fiancé's back. Of course, when a large corporate book store moved in across the street it put significant stress on her engagement. She went on to arrange a rendezvous with this mysterious stranger, again behind her fiancé's back and, you'll never guess what, it was the man from Seattle again. Same old story, huh?
It's permanent housing and folks rarely vacate. You might be old before you are contacted for an opening. My god parents have lived there for 40 years at least. You would be better off applying for lottery apartments via housing connect. Or shop around for other subsidized housing. Some Mitchell - Lama lists are shorter. Also look outside the city. Am acquaintance who is a ceramicist recently applied for some artist subsided development in Peekskill. That isnt too far away. You might also do better to apply for every fiction related fellowship you can find.
