The Mellow Mushroom Experience ( Walk-In Edition). I wanted some pizza on this day and dropped by Mellow Mushroom at approximately 11 am to beat the lunch rush. So when entering, I was the only customer in the establishment, which was my plan all along. I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza with a house salad with mixed greens topped with roma tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet onions, and shaved parmesan. I knew coming in early would have me in and out fast; however, I was wrong. I waited about 20 minutes for a reheated slice of pizza and a small salad. While waiting for my food, I saw the kitchen go from one cook to multiple staff members behind the line. Could the delay in my food be from staff leisurely coming into work and not being on time? This question certainly leaves me to think this was the case. Nevertheless, once ready to eat, I felt like my pizza tasted like I had picked it up from a gas station. However, the salad was tasty with the Esperanza salad dressing. Although I have had Mellow Mushroom in the past, the taste of the slice was not comparable to my prior tasting experiences. I tend not to come to Mellow Mushroom because parking is undesirable at this downtown location, and after what I tasted, I am unsure I will be back anytime soon.

Fantastic pizza, appetizers and custom drinks. All of the selections are unique, and tasty. This isn't your typical pizza joint. It was fun.

The pizza looks great; it is also very tasty. The staff is very friendly & tasty. However, there is only one pizza oven. The night my family came to Mellow Mushroom was prioritizing takeout orders over people sitting in the restaurant. It took a little over 1 hour for us to get our 2 pizzas. They have a big management issue because no waiter or waitress could tell us people doing takeout had backed up all the in the restaurant orders.

Can you tell me what options you have for vegan dining?

Carol Hildebrandt | Mar 13, 2019

They have hummus with celery and carrots....salads made to order...they also have a tempeh, tofu or avacado hoagie..order without cheese & mayo... but I am not sure if the hoagie bun would be vegan..could ask or request pita bread in place of bun. Pretzel bites and veggie pizza may also be an option but you would need to ask how they are prepared to be sure.

Is their feta cheese pasturized?

Allison Bennett | Mar 13, 2018
kelly hollifield | Mar 14, 2018

You would need to call them for a definite answer, as they don't list the brand on their website. However, in America, by law, all cheese regulated by the FDA (that is, all cheese that is transported across state lines) must either be made from pasteurized (heated) milk or aged at least 60 days. It is unlikely that a corporation that has stores existing in many states would be using a cheese that is unpasteurized and hasn't crossed any state lines during transport to their store. It would open them up to many lawsuits and might not even be allowed depending on their insurer. If this is for pregnancy purposes, you should be just fine, but as I said, call them first to ease your mind.
