They sent me to collections on a bill I never received. If they don’t remove the derogatory mark from my credit, I’m getting a lawyer involved. I’ve always paid my electric bill, and to be penalized for something I didn’t receive is down right wrong. Makes me want to buy outside of southern Maryland as smeco has no regard for their customers. Maybe call to make sure they got the final bill, or even better yet don’t close the online access until the last bill is paid. I would like someone from management to contact me. I told Dan my concerns today and he said he would relay, but after what happened I don’t trust this company and will let others know to beware of their shady business practices. The supervisor, Marissa, acted like she hates her job and just didn’t have any personality or customer service skills. I asked for someone above her to call me because she was no help and acted like my concern was a bother saying hey don’t have the manpower to call people. Sounds like laziness to me.

12 years ago, we had Pepco and there service was unreliable. We were happy when SMECO took over our area. At that time, Pepco's service was horrible and the outcries sparked their efforts to improve their infrastructure and service. Now, I'm wishing we had Pepco!! SMECO service is unreliable -- goes out without a storm incident and goes out during (or after) most storms yet Pepco's service would still be operating. I know because I can look out of my window and see my neighbors with power!! Though thankfully the outage doesn't last for long times but it's problematic. Something needs to be done about this.

We were served by SMECO from 1969 through 2020 for four different properties and they were excellent. Fair pricing, very responsive customer telephone help desk and professional line crew work after storm outages. Cannot understand the negative reviews, are they "bots"(?). Our experience was completely different and very favorable. Just got my last co-op owner refund check, another annual benefit.

I ordered a new thermostat and was waiting for it's arrival. After 20 days of it not arriving, I called to check on the status. "We are out of stock. The new shipment will arrive Thur and we will send it out to you next week"...SOOO many things wrong with this statement. No notification when purchased or any updates over a 3 week period. UNSAT. They claim to not be able to tell when things are/are not in stock on the on-line store. WTH? Then, once the new shipment arrives, it takes a WEEK to reship it to me? It's summer and my thermostat randomly kicks off. Any update to the shipping status would have been appreciated. He just read from the customer service script "I understand, blah blah"

Depends on you exact location. Which county line? Smeco has some coverage in PG by brandywine off of route 5 and on and around the southern part of 210. If you call smeco and give them your address they will tell you.
Hello and thank you for your question. As of now, December 2021, SMECO’s rates don’t differentiate between peak and off-peak usage. So, if you have a residential account, it doesn’t matter when you use your large appliances. The Public Service Commission has approved SMECO’s rates for time-of-use to begin in February 2022. We’ll be telling our members more about the new rate options in the new year.
Please call SMECO at 1-888-440-3311 and one of our customer service representatives will be able to help you.
SMECO staff and our Board of Directors are aware of the broadband accessibility issue in our area. We have actively participated in several state and local task forces that have focused on extending broadband to rural areas. SMECO is working with the Charles County government and its internet partner, Think Big Networks, to extend broadband to the Nanjemoy and Cobb Neck areas. For the time being, we are committed to helping existing Internet Service Providers extend service to unserved areas.
You can find an outline map of SMECO’s service area at https://smeco.coop/about/service-area.
Some of our members lost power on Wednesday when a transmission structure from the Hawkins Gate substation in La Plata failed, causing an overhead conductor to fall to the ground. We quickly restored service to the vast majority of our members affected.
Please call SMECO at 1-888-440-3311 to report the broken support cable. Thank you for alerting us to the problem.
