Bergen Volunteer center is an amazing organization. When I first retired Bergen Volunteers was able to provide me with volunteer opportunities that fit my interests and skills. At present I am the chair of a non profit with over 70 volunteers. Bergen Volunteers is our best source for finding specific volunteers.

My husband, who has MS but is ambulatory and I wanted grab bars in our bathtub. We didn’t know what kind, where they should go and how to install them into tile. A friend who is a PT recommended we call CHORE. The volunteers came and they were as sweet as can be. They brought their equipment and supplied us with the bars and their expertise with installing them. With our approval we directed them to install grab bars in the shower and wherever we needed them to make stairs safe for both of us. Their services were free but we were charged for materials. Your requirement for services is not dependent on your finances. But, there are so many people they help who have nothing. If you can afford it, then this is a worthy organization to receive your charity. THANK YOU CHORE!

Those in need in Bergen County (and elsewhere) deserve an organization like this. By chance, I ran into CEO Nina Bachrach in a parking lot where I was carrying too many bags. I had also lost place of my car. Nina and her daughter not only helped me carry my bags, but helped me find my car. Hospitality like this is exactly what Bergen County (and New York City, by the way) needs and, in my limited but somewhat informed opinion, been known for. My late grandmother, Verda Lynn, lived for 50 years in a split-level home in Haworth - a place I loved to visit as a kid from the suburbs of New Haven. Bergen County, so close, was a different place. I never felt as though anyone were putting on airs, nor did not realize the good luck they had living in such a wonderful County.

Disappointed. Wrote a request for a couple of small things and got a response a couple weeks later responding to only one of my requests and ignoring the others. For example... I asked that someone help me label my circuit breaker box. That does not require an electrician !! I ended up doing it with my neighbors 10 year old son. I mentioned I needed my smoke detectors checked, a few ceiling light Bulbs changed And my sink drain handle was loose. The only response I was got was to call an electrician. This is disappointing as it's very hard to find a handyman for small jobs.

Hello there, That is a very admirable thing to do on a day like that. I would recommend looking at https://cfanj.org to look for places in need of your kind services. I hope this can help you somewhat, since I'm not entirely knowledgeable about this. Although I wish you the best on giving back and spreading this positivity. Have a nice week and happy holidays!

At this time we are not aware of any opportunities for Thanksgiving, you can try these locations to see if they have any availability: Hoboken Shelter ( (201) 656-5069 ) in Hoboken, or OASIS ( (973) 881-8307 ) , Eva's Kitchen ( (973) 523-6220 ), or St. Paul's Community Development Center ( (973) 710-3900 ) in Paterson.
