I saw this store recommended to a friend over Instagram as “a great place to find interesting books…” While it definitely has a lot of product, I was extremely underwhelmed. For one, as a reader with more contemporary tastes, there is not much available that was printed within the last decade. My personal focus is more on queer studies and other social Justice adjacent topics. I found only one queer book in the thousands of on hand used books, and it was a nostalgic find, but a book I already had. I’m not by any means saying this establishment is anti-anything, but clearly it is not marketing to the under-represented. All-in-all, you may find some nostalgic pieces here, but to me it appeared to mainly be an over-abundance of junk… the kind of titles that were rightly cast off by their former owners, and few if any true gems. If you happen to be a fan of one of those types of authors who produce hundreds of books, and are supposedly “best-sellers” (I.e. Danielle Steele, James Patterson, Agatha Christie, Dean Koontz, Nora Roberts, or random less common works of Stephen King, for example) then you will find shelves of their past works; I also noticed that the most common stocked items were old “school editions” of different common works such as Shakespeare, and works by commonly studied authors like Jane Austen, Dickens, etc. Frankly, their selection of even classics weren’t exceptional, and I wasted an hour trying to explore and mine out any gems, only to end up leaving with nothing. It felt like sifting through piles of rejected books, and not productive.
