Only if you're missing your legs!
With out a vehicle it would be a long walk to the camping area for the side of the Off Road Vehicles. I don't know if there is a camp site close enough to the entrance on the other side to not need a vehicle.... I've only had one trip. I'm a beginner to this as well.... I will say I was Very surprised to see soo many 2 door & 4 door regular 2WD cars on the campsite....
Oceano Dunes district ranger station call for reservations (800)444-7275 (800)473-7220 or reserve on line www.ReserveCalifornia.com. just do it in advance.
Luv to camp They will take it where you want on the beach
Yes definitely bonfire
You can get to the place that suits you best, no reservation necessary
We camp oceana dunes all the time we also have a very large trailer and yes you will need a 4 wheel drive. You have to air down your tires and you can Camp right in front of the ocean it awesome!! Go on to Facebook and go to their page its called OCEANO DUNE RIDER'S-ODR. you will find everything you need to know on that page or ask questions people will answer you right away. Have a blast be safe.
You can schedule atleast 2 days ahead but you should call them because they are only booking certain amt of people to camp right now.
If you want to camp on the beach, you need reservations online and there's only weekdays available. There's only one gate to enter. They don't label the campsites near the dunes but the ranger upon entry will tell you the numbers you can set up camp in between. (You'll see post with numbers on them). I was there the last two weekends for day use and definitely get in line early if you're not camping, for camping go on the website for reservations.
There is a lot of street parking on the residential streets just south of the entrance just dont leave valuables in car.
You don't have to but it's good to do it especially on weekends like what's coming up in any holiday or whatever because it gets packed and you won't get a spot
No you dont.. I recommend that once you get down on the sand. Deflate your tires down to about 8 psi... Sound like not alot of air but believe me i was raised in Oceano and its a must to not getting stuck... Watch others cross the creek before you do so you can see how deep it is and where the shallows are... Go..have a blast..
Not always but it sells out
That depends on Mother Nature. Some days calm as can be and other days it blows like crazy
Reservation
It depends on what you want , varies 💯 and 2 💯
Don't know the answer to that sorry. But I do know it's 5$ to drive your 4x4 down on to the beach. Happy beaching. 😊
Give it
No, due to the covid restrictions however, they limit the amount of people on the beach. So the earlier you get there, the better. Make sure you have sand worthy tires on everything or you may get stuck. It's 10.00 a night to camp on the beach. An annual pass only gets you in for free during the open hours of 7am to 8pm.
AIR B&B
Enjoy it while you can California Coastal commission is intent on shutting it down permanently this should be a human sanctuary and off-road vehicles
I see paragliding out here but never a paramotor.
Yes you can. An drink to.
Not sure .Call the state.. the Pismo N. Campground will be open April 19.. maybe only day passes..that i could see yesterday afternoon.
Quad weren't allowed. No camping wasn't allowed either. No utv - razors. Only street legal vehicles. So if you only have 2 wheel drive stay on hard packed. With street legal 4x4 you can still cruise the dunes.
Yes they opened up the dunes they are allowing 1000 street vehicles and 1000 off road vehicles and 100 camp sites on the beach but you have to make reservations for the campsites
Yes, it is allowed
No, not yet, still phase 1, day use only to street legal vehicles, 7am-8pm
No, still in stage 1, street legal vehicles only, day use 7am to 8pm
We were driving through recently and stopped for the night here. We couldn't see more than 200 feet because of fog. It was still a great spot to visit!
I think you can last time we were there till 3am and people had camping 🏕
There closed tell further notice
Normally you can rent ATVs however the Dunes are closed
Yes
No, the state park campground is not open.
no. Its closed until the fall.
No. But you can still walk on the beach, or ride a bike on the beach
Yes but can't park your vehicles on actual beach, they have it block off so you can only park in parking lot which is first come first serve.
Nope :(
No
Definitely not as strict as they use to be ,you would have to show the registration papers for every off road vehicle before
Approximately 250 deposit $50 per hour give them a call
There is usually a vendor on the beach that has self serve air for a $ 1.00 a tire and one on the way out on peir ave. But they close around 5 pm not 100% on the business hours . High and low tides change every day I've looked them up online. Or gotten ahold of a high and low tide book. For camping after the river and ATV rentals area then you can camp pretty much anywhere. Except 50 feet from fences and restrooms.
Safe and warm right now
If you're on the beach then no. But there are several places in town that you're able to do that at.
Yes. There's been discussion of restricting the area allowed but nothing is planned now.
Yes Martin Farrell is absolutely right.... You should be able to make reservations but you should be good as long as its not a special event date.... You can find that out on line also...
Especially in july
Whats a 2 wheel cart
Yes is you go to the "dune" area but not on the beach.
If u stay on the beach there are only outdoor rinse showers by the bathrooms...if u stay at the campgrounds of northbeach right up the road it has onsite bathroom and showers.
Yes. Oceano Dunes camping isn't one of the first-come-first-served campgrounds and require online reservation through reservecalifornia.com
Early is always best..
Just id work's. For camping
You won't find one anywhere close
Not on the beach but the r.v parks have them
Dry Dry as it can get. There is a service that will come out for $$$
Theres a station to empty an refill water it's free in the first gate n inside the duns there people that they do it $40 empty n wash then the water 75 cents a gallon.
Any time of the year is good, summer time has more foggy Days then fall or winter.
Yes allowed but watch the type of sand you park on. Many deflate tires to assist with traction
Yes you can !!! No problem.
Not necessarily a truck or car with low air pressure in the tires will to pretty well as long as you stay away from the soft sand
Stay in a hard Pack sand.. You should be ok...
It gets crowded, best to reserve.
Only if you know how to drive😋. Be sure registration is up to date, as federal land requires it.
There is booking counter at the entrance u can pay there
You should be fine.
All state and federal parks require registration n proof of ins. Since thats the law
Not sure but There are lots of places to camp and ride in California. It just depends if your from So. Cal or Nor. Cal looking online would be your best bet.
There's over night parking but its on the street not in a parking garage.
I know this question has already been answered but i thought i should mention that if your dog is sensitive to lots of noise i would not recommend bringing. There is continuous brrraaaap noise that we all love but some dogs freak out and often run away. I recommend joining the Jerk Pirates Offroad Group and Pismo Dune Riders and Oceano Dune Riders before you come just in case you get stuck or have any other questions 😁. Come on out and ride and have fun!!!
Stay in the wetish sand, dont go in the dry sand. You are required to go about 1.5 miles on the beach, before you get to the camping area(or stay at a hotel/rv park). There are plenty of people to help pull you out. Do not gonin the water, your car will sink. Make sure yoi have reservations for holidays. Probably already booked. Lower your tire pressure in the sand, about 12-15psi, bring an air compressor if possible. Enjoy!
The tires used on the dunes aren't regulated, just attempt at your own risk. Paddle tires are highly recommended, knobby tires following. Standard tread can make it into the shallow portions of the dunes with an experienced driver, but won't make it to the back of the dunes.
Yes but don't get caught drinking and driving, even on the beach because they'll own you if they catch you.
We are going next week. Reserved at reservecalifornia.gov
They're always out day and night if that's not reminder enough then please don't go down there. Here's the deal just pick up after yourself and there won't be any problems. I always leave any place I go cleaner than it was when I got there.
You sure can becareful in the winter when you got to cross the river.
Pick a spot and camp. You don't have a set place to camp so yeah there could be that many sites.
It is separate. One road/street that leads into the dunes. Once there, you can get permit to stay overnight if available.
