We really enjoyed our stay, and the experience in general! Our room was very clean and the staff were great. The coffee shop is super and has some really good food too. It's got very gorgeous views and yes it shows a little age in places, but I prefer that in a place with so much history. We traveled from north Carolina and we really had no complaints! Only thing I wish was different, was renting the kayaks is only available in the mornings.

I stayed at the Terrace Bay from April 29-May 2, 2022. They were in the midst of a major remodel, and I had one of the renovated lake view king rooms. The bed was fairly comfortable and the view was spectacular. There was a stunning sunrise one morning that darned near made the whole stay worth the money. The staff were exceptionally cordial, welcoming, and considerate. I have some serious mobility issues and can’t walk far without pain. They found a way for a staff member to bring me a breakfast bagel from their coffee shop and did some other things for me that were very helpful. The reason I can only give three stars is that the building is not very friendly to people with mobility issues. I use a walker and have very painful knees. The walking distance from the desk to my room and from my parking space to my room was daunting. The corridors were very long. All the doors – into the building, into my room, and into the bathroom – were very narrow. They just barely accommodated my walker. The bed, while comfortable, was quite tall and hard to get onto, especially with my bad knees. I’m 5’8”, and I don’t know how a shorter person would manage.

Check-in and check-out staff were friendly. We stayed in an updated room for 1 night as we were passing through. The room was clean. The bed was a bit uncomfortable to our liking and felt like a cheaper mattress/sheets but for 1 night it was alright. The heating made a clunking noise which was annoying. The updates are nice but you can tell that not everything is new. We were glad we google mapped the location of the building so we knew what to anticipate from the outside looks etc. I can understand some reviews where people were surprised based on the "updated and professional" photos. It was nice to have the slider door to the parking lot as we were able to load and unload our car quickly and easily vs. having to go through the hallway.

When you're expected to pay more than $180 for a room, the place ought to look worth it. The website leads you to believe you're going to a nice resort hotel, but when we were there last summer, most of the place still looked like a run-down motel. Our room was renovated, so it was lovely, but almost everything else was awful. We had a doorwall that stepped right out to the parking lot. It was neither visually appealing nor conducive to feeling safe. We had a long and dingy walk from our room to the pool, which was in need of repair, and the lobby, where a coffee bar was not yet completed. On the lake side, a walking path was surrounded by so much overgrowth that you couldn't see the lake. The only way to get to the water was a boat launch at the far end of the property, which was covered with goose droppings. The kayaks promised on the web site, which were a major reason we chose the place, were not actually there yet. Major disappointment. We did receive some money back after complaining to the management, but I still wouldn't recommend it. Even if/when they finish the renovations, it won't change the structure or parking situation of the place--half the rooms have an ugly view. it's just not worth what they charge. Go to the restaurant if you like good, expensive food, but skip the hotel.

Great question Nancy. We do not at this time. There are a couple of nearby laundromats in Gladstone and Escanaba.
