The Inn at Pleasant Lake was the perfect venue for our small wedding. We were able to book the entire Inn for the weekend. The owners, inn keeper, and staff were so friendly, thoughtful, and accommodating! We held a pizza party in the Barn on Friday night, which was a great way to kick of the weekend. Our wedding day ran as smoothly as possible and the venue was truly relaxing and enjoyable. The appetizers for cocktail hour and dinner at Okay & Grain were fantastic. The grounds are truly beautiful, the rooms were comfortable, and our guests were able to enjoy the lake and kayaks provided by the Inn. We will absolutely be back!

Great hospitality!! We were very happy with our stay. We requested a room change and the staff was happy to make the transition to keep us comfortable. They gave us the best room in the house!! The food, service and amenities were all top notch.

Well you said to come back and we did! We stayed over memorial Day weekend and it was outstanding. Unlike in March where we had rain and thunder and fog it was crystal clear the temperatures were nice getting fairly hot on memorial Day itself. Was the first time. The staff does a wonderful job of making you feel welcome and cared for. It's pretty obvious this is a fantastic place to have a wedding. I'd say considering the size of the in and the grounds probably a wedding of 100 people or so would be your best bet anything more than that it would probably get a little bit crowded. But the food in the restaurant is very very good some of the best I've had up in this area so I think that any wedding guests would be definitely very well pleased with the quality of the food. They also have ownership of the New London inn which is up the street in downtown New London. We've not stayed there as yet but we're going to check it out once we check out of the inn this morning. For us we probably prefer the end because we like the more cozy feeling where you're not on a main street where the New London inn is but they have an excellent restaurant there as well I've been told. The Reed family runs this place like as they say a well-oiled machine everybody knows exactly what they need to do and they strive for excellence and they achieve it. As I said in my first review we do plan on returning and we certainly will. Rooms are very nice they're just the right size. I would recommend for those rooms that face the lake itself that they probably provide dark curtains or pull down shade as when the sun comes up the room becomes very light first thing in the morning and at this time of the year first thing in the morning is 5:00. The beach is very nice it is shared with the slope and shores resort area which is like a group of houses that run up the hillside so you'll notice it's quite a few people there but it's only those people from the resort area as well as the inn.

We had the pleasure of hosting our intimate wedding at the Inn this past weekend and what an experience! From beginning to end the whole process was incredible. Julia was so helpful and kind during the planning process. She made sure everything ran smoothly. The food was absolutely incredible! The rooms were comfortable and clean. We can’t wait to come back to the Inn!

Questions & Answers

What are the best things to do in the area? Any good hiking? Museums? Shows?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Tons of stuff to do in New London and Central NH, all times of the year. Art galleries, antique shops, eclectic boutiques, hiking, winter adventures, lakes in the summer. The Inns website and blogs are a great source of reference for things to do. They also do some very creative packages that make your planning easy.

What's the parking situation like?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

On-site parking is free and plentiful to those who book direct with the Inn. There are also EV car chargers for inn guests - both Tesla and Universal!

Is breakfast included? What's it like?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Breakfast is always included as well as afternoon tea and snacks. Coffee and water is available 24/7 for early risers. Breakfasts have a first course of fresh buffet items you can access at will, followed by a fully served hot entree of sweet or savory selection. Breakfast is served 8:00 am - 1:00 am, but innkeepers will do their best to accommodate early departures with either prearranged to go items, or alternate arrangements. All dietaries are carefully accommodated and no one leaves hungry!

Are there any rooms with 2 beds?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Classic Rooms all have single queen beds. Junior suites have either king or queen beds. All Junior suites also have platform sofa beds that convert the sitting area into extra sleeping capacity. These are not the old "springy" kind of sofa beds, and have comfortable form topped sleeping surfaces. They are full size beds. There a no double queens or double twins. Room capacities are listed on the web site for clarity.

A lot of old inns have shared bathrooms - do all the rooms have their own baths?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

No shared baths! Ugh!!! Despite the historic nature of the Inn for over 150 years, modern conveniences are everywhere. Baths were most recently upgraded from 2017 - 2019 for all rooms - tile floors, lighting, features, fixtures and function. There is also air conditioning throughout, EV car chargers, etc... The Inn is well maintained for modern convenience.

Many B&B's are "Self service" after a certain time? Is someone there to help us?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

There is someone on site 24/7. Generally the front desk has someone there from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm (unless the inn is closed). There is a late check-in process after 11:00 pm, and it's very easy to follow. It's not a huge place, so its easy to find your way to your room.

How does dinner work there? I heard it was different.

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

It is very unique, but not stuffy. Every effort is made to make you feel at home while being served by a world class team who genuinely cares about your experience. The chef is personally engages with guests to make sure they enjoy the food and the experience. It's a price fixed format, all locally sourced, and custom prepared each night. The 5-Course meals (what they're famous for), are a single seating where your table is yours for the night. Cocktail reception starts at 6:15pm, and your at your table around 7:00pm. Oh, and there are always vegetarian options and accommodations for dietary. You are treated special, no matter what your dietary needs are! In the winter, there is a 3 course version that offers more flexibility in terms of when you what to dine, and more selections in each of the courses. Great information on the website. Easy to make reservations right on your phone over the web.

What's the lake like for swimming? is it clean? Is it cold?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Pleasant Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in NH. There are literally no invasive weeds, and most test elements are insignificant. The water is clear and pure. Cold is always a personal preference, but summer months (July to Sept) are very comfortable water temps. Locals tend to take their first plunge in May, but it's pretty chilly still.

Cell coverage can be spotty in NH, What's the cell phone coverage like? Is there strong WIFI?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Verizon is the strongest carrier in the area. They seem to work well at the Inn and the surrounding area. The Inn has super strong WIFI through the facility and over much of the grounds (not at lake though!). We didn't have any problems streaming videos. WIFI calling option works great on most phones if your cell carrier is problematic. There also is a traditional land line if all else fails.

What rooms have the best views?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Hard to say - lots of choices. 7 out of 10 rooms have lake and mountain views. The rooms all have very different features and functions and size. The website has a great way to flip through the rooms and great photos that are very representative of the views. That said, Rooms 4, 12, 9 certainly have fantastic views!!!!

What are dining options in the area? How far away are they?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Dining at the Inn is an experience not to be missed. Just check out the reviews -#1 rated. Dinner is always served Wed - Sun. And there is a Sunday Brunch! For variety or nights when dinner is not served, there are several options right in town ranging from a great brew pub, 3 different taverns, and a couple 4-star places. Also burger place, pizza chef, sandwich shops, and a grocery store if you want to go that route. That's just in New London, more in surrounding towns if you wish to venture out a little.

Anyone know the best way to save money on rates?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

Rates vary widely. It is always best to book direct on the website. Great website - book right on your phone. Why pay more in commissions!! Highest rates are weekend and summer. Mid week rates are always lower. There are also flash sales when there are cancellations. Promotions are also offered, typically to their FB followers and email subscribers. Best way to get in the know on these deals is to sign up for the monthly email on the website (scroll to bottom).

How far away is the inn from town?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

The Inn is about 1.5 miles from the center of town. It really feels like you are very remote, while being very accessible. There is quite a hill, so walking might not be advised unless you are looking for a work out, even though it's only 1.5 miles. Town is quintessential New England - historic, quaint, coffee shops, bakery, book shop, clothes shops, some art galleries, etc... It's a small college town with a great feel.

Your pictures show a beach and lake. Is there a charge to use the beach? What's included?

Robert Smith | Feb 26, 2020
Scott Reed | Feb 27, 2020

There is no charge to use the beach or the boats. Everything is included in the room rate. In fact beach towels, chairs, using the boats, all the life jackets and paddles etc... they are all included and provided. The beach is really nice - sandy, which is rare in NH. The waterfront also offers great amenities - Bocce court, tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, bbq grills. It is a private beach that is shared with neighbors in an association. While use of all the facilities are complimentary when staying at the Inn, it is important to be courteous of other guests and neighbors also using the facilities. Also, it is never crowded like most beaches you see. You can tell it's private!
