Trails are well marked, fun for kids though I wish I brought garden gloves for them as they cut up their little hands on shards of rock. Parking lot and portapottys were nasty. (Used condoms and litter on the ground )

This is a great multi use park with a wilderness feel literally five minutes off the highway. Rock collecting is fun (But hard work to find the good stuff). The real fun is the challenging and scenic trails for both pedestrians and mountain bikers. Park is dog friendly and good for supervised kids. The trail map is pretty good and trails are getting better marked every year. Plan on spending the afternoon but go back often. Always something new to discover there. UPDATE 4/2023 New signs and maps have been installed on many trails and the map on the parks website is new. Signs now forbid swimming or diving in the quarries. I continue to suggest that new visitirs enter park at garfield road entrance as this is by far the best marked and most scenic. It is still easy to get disoriented at the rear entrance unless you know it well.

Love the quick drive to Mount Apatite to enjoy the offerings of nature and recharge!! My girls love to come with me and I couldn't ask for better companions (except having my youngest gem with us too)!

Wonderful trails! Beautiful in the fall. Great spot for neat rocks and such

I see guys fishing in there but never saw anybody catch anything.
I've never seen a horse (or droppings) in there. But I don't think I've seen anything prohibiting thrm either. You will find a lot of people with dogs though, often not on a leash, who haven't seen many horses.
I hike these trails with my dogs regularly and I have never seen an ATV on the trails. The info through the city of Auburn indicates no motorized vehicles are allowed with the exception of snowmobiles. I know the Andy Valley Sno Gypsies maintain trails out there and the have a club house on the outer perimeter of the land.
The park is just off rt 121 in auburn and there are plenty of motels and campgrounds in the area. The park is easy to navigate if you go in at the entrance by the ball fields (off rt 121). Grab a map off the web and read up. You'll be fine and have a great time
Park is open year round. There were rockhounds there in January last year. If there's no snow you can find rocks and if there is the trails are great for snowshoeing and sledding. Not good for skiing.
If you keep your eyes open you can find beautiful chunks of quartz almost anywhere. But going about a mile inward towards the quarries brings you to a really good spot to find minerals
Tourmalines, quartz, lepidolite, garnet, apatite, muscovite
