This is a must see for those who like history, art, or just the weary traveler. My hiking party stopped here at 5:45pm because we were about to get lost but we’re already hot and tired. It was perfect timing because tours are at 9am and 6pm for $15 per person. The hotel is cool and they sell water and other drinks that have been in a refrigerator. Cell service is so so right out front of the hotel. Which was amazing because none of us had had cell service all day. The tour was amazing! The paintings on the opera house walls were phenomenal. They were painted by Marta Becket a ballerina and artist. There is a reason she painted every single person on the wall or ceiling. Many of them were her friends or supporters. Even the cats on the walls have names. She painted them to be her audience. The story behind Marta Becket is inspiring. I wish we would have booked a night at the hotel. They have 12 rooms and are typically booked a week out. It is not fancy but a great step back in time. After a 105 degree day hiking this felt just right. The place made history come to life.

We visited here in March which is a decently chilly time to be in death valley area. They don't have hot water. The walls are too thin and the rooms are way too close. You can easily hear someone next room even if they are not loud. It's super expensive for the quality of room and service that is provided. The only advantage is that they are located close to death valley national park and can be used to spend the night if you can't find a place in the national park

This place is all about location. It is on the edge of the desert, and there are very few things funkier than the desert. If you are traveling into the area for the first time, you may be put off by the ancient condition of this "original condition" gem. But if you have traveled in this area for long at all you may come to appreciate it as much as I do. it is quirky, it is operating on a shoestring because in this area, resources are limited. But there is a dedicated staff here doing there best to make your stay as clean as comfortable as they can, and it was plenty of both for me.

No ghosts here which was disappointing. Most of the hotel is abandoned but gives a good vibe. Plenty of parking and old cool stuff to watch if you want to walk around the place. The kitchen and communal spaces are big and clean. Receptionist was super helpful and even borrowed us her charger! We slept pretty good, bed and sheets seem fairly new but there was some dog hair on our sheets. The walls are really thin so we could listen everyone in the hall and rooms. Overall a good experience but pretty abandoned.

Yes, but not in summer. They're starting in October if I remember well
I was there last week , all the way from ohio , with my son and a friend. We were looking around, taking pictures , considering staying there a night or so. The woman who works there basically ran us off , was watching us out the window and came outside , peeked around the corner at us and was quite rude. Made our decision on staying there an easy one ...NOPE !!!! The place looks cool , but not worth the rudeness or the hippy smoking pot at the entrance to the place. VERY DISAPPOINTED
Hello John, first I'd like to address the fact that right before my phone notified me that someone had a question about the Amargosa Opera House, that I was entrenched reading "To Dance on Sands" by Marta Becket. If that isn't a sign of some sort, idk what is. Wow. Ok, anyways, the hotel is most definitely open as I stayed there about 3 weeks ago. I'm not going to say anything about my stay because I believe that one should have their own experience even before they stay there. Go & know that Marta Becket is a very special & one of a kind lady 🙂. It may look deserted & closed, but that's the beauty of it. It is not. I will say it was the most absolute quietest place I've ever been to though.
The Opera house tour part is closed the hotel is open the manager has such great information and you can see some of the artwork and treasures in the lobby! Stop by and day Hi.
Yes
You will not find a casino at Amargosa because it is still California state. However, if you travel about 6 miles to the nearest town in Nevada, there are two spots with casinos.
