One of the best Tahoe area lakes, for boating and kayaking. It’s a bigger lake for kayaking but shore kayaking is the best. View is gorgeous and not over used or crowded.

We had a wonderful time here. The bathrooms could have been a little cleaner. Our camp spot was very private and quiet. Lots if surrounding trees and brush to provide privacy. I can not stress enough, PLEASE BE EXTRA MINDFUL OF THE BEARS!. We had a mama and 2 cubs come through our camp site 2x in 1 day, during the daytime! She came up about 8 feet next to my son's girlfriend quiet as can be and just started looking for food. My son was just a few feet away in a hammock and he slowly got out and they ran up to the trailer. She walked through the campsite and took the trash bag that was under the table and went through it. We banged pans and yelled and it did phase her a bit. The only thing that scared her away was a marble to the head with a sling shot. Just be aware that at any point in the day, bears may come through and you MUST put all food away.

Let me preface this by saying I’ve been camping 2-4 times a year for 20 years and have never felt like I was being profiled at campsites by park rangers or workers. But coming here I definitely felt like my family and I were not welcome. The workers were not kind or helpful. We thought it was “just the way they are” NOPE. Big nope. They were really friendly and kind to other ppl.we were one of the only ethnic families I saw at the campsite. The pointing and stares and looks from ppl are enough to make anyone uncomfortable when we’re literally just camping. Like everyone else. I wouldn’t have expected to feel so uncomfortable when we’re trying to create good times in a beautiful area. We got complaints over noise . We went to sleep at 9. Even tho the noise ordinance stopped at 10. Regardless I still wanted to abide by the rules because that’s what you do when you camp. Someone complains you’re making noise and you stop making noise because you’re sharing a space . It’s common sense really. But there were many a times that the workers would watch our area in specific just waiting for us to make a mistake. There were ppl riding their bikes into our campsite. Laughing and throwing trash into our site when we left. I have never ever felt so othered as a P.O.C trying to camp. Ever. The bathrooms were ok. They do charge 1 dollar for 3minutes of shower time which I thought was a little ridiculous but what was even worse was that the showers would be cold so that sucked. The lake is beautiful and regardless of my experience there I’ll be back because I’m not going to let ignorant ppl run me and my family out of an area we paid to be at and I’m not going to let anyones perception of who we are ruin us wanting to see our countries beautiful sites. Disappointing to say the least. And I don’t mean the lake which was very nice.

Legend has it that an Indian brave was being chased by a bear and ge prayed to the Great Spirit to save him. So a branch from an aspen tree fell before the brave which he picked up and waved at the bear. Now a leaf from the tree branch fell on the ground and magically it formed Fallen Leaf Lake. Now that slowed the bear but did not stop him. After swimming Fallen Leaf Lake, the bear once again began chasing the brave. In desperation the brave threw the entire branch at the bear and when it hit the ground it formed Lake Tahoe. The waters of Lake Tahoe were so deep and the mountains surrounding it were so steep that the bear could not escape them and the brave was saved. To this day you can still see the scratches formed in the mountains where the bear desperately tried to claw his way out. They are quite visible above Sand Harbor on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe.
Yes, Stand Up Paddle Boarding is allowed at $35/hour
Yes the do. Go to Fallen Leaf Marina Website. All informations are there
No
You can't
Yes, as long as they are on a leash. I bring my dogs there every year. Make sure you keep them in at night though, the bears roam around the campsites at night...
Yes closer to lake Tahoe the water is warmer and shalower
It's not very populated, but there is very little parking there. I suggest you check out Glen Alpine Falls. Very close to the road, but go early!!
If you're launching a canoe kayak inflatable you can just carry it to the water if it's a powerboat I have seen them on the lake but the campground has no boat ramp for power boats
