I would strongly recommend working with Greg if you are ever looking for valuations or help with selling a coin collection. Greg was very transparent throughout the whole process of valuation, is highly knowledgeable, he tailors the process to each persons level of understanding so that you feel comfortable with the whole experience. He is extremely thorough and clearly has a passion for his work. I never at any point felt he put his interests ahead of mine, which is something you see less and less these days. While my interaction with Janet was more limited in scope, I felt she operated with the same professionalism and ethical approach that Greg did. Thank you for helping an overwhelming task feel so simple!

Me and my husband collect money and we’ve been looking for a place close by to help us take a look at it and see if we have anything rare!! My husband found this place online (Charlotte Rare Coins) and gave them a call! He spoke with Janet, she was Very nice and helpful my husband sent her a few photos threw text and they ended up coming to the conclusion it would be best if we just came up to the office so they could take a look! (No one mentioned it being by appointment only) so we finally get a free day and decided to go up there! We walk in and Janet greeted us, we told her we had some money we wanted someone to take a look at. She kindly told us that her and Greg both had clients at the moment if we would like to wait we could and then offered us a water. I would also like to include we had our 1 year old son with us! (Who isn’t a wild child, he’s actually very calm) we waited about 5-10mins and then Greg comes out and begins to explain he has a client but he could take a quick look at our stuff (Mind you, we DID NOT MIND waiting at all) so my husband pulls out our small safe that we keep our money in to grab the few things we wanted him to look at and Greg proceeds this time rudely to continue to tell us he has a client that he can only take a quick look.. and again WE DID NOT MIND WAITING or even coming bak later if they thought it was gonna be a while befor they were done with their clients! Everything my husband showed him and glanced quickly at and wrote it off as basically worthless!! We even have an uncirculated dime with a dye crack above Roosevelts eye brow that he quickly glanced at and told my husband it was “spendable” so basically it was worthless!!! I just felt like because my son was waiting with us in the lobby they wanted rush threw and get us out of there!! Our experience wasn’t that great! Wether I had an appointment or not my son still would have been with me!! He gave us a card but he just seemed not interested in helping us much! If they wanted to help instead or coming out to take a quick “glance” he would have came out and offered to make us an appointment so he could actually help us!! I had a few other questions I needed to ask but again just seemed like they wanted to rush us out the door !!! I see all these great comments and reviews here and I hate being the one to leave a bad review, but honestly I felt like things could’ve been handled a little different! And just because you have a smile on your face doesn’t mean you’re not being rude!! Hopefully no one else has to have an experience like me, my husband, and son did!!

Seamless. Painless. Informative. Honorable. My uncle left a coin collection when he died. Gregory was able to help me understand the value of the coins, the difference between selling to a collector or auctioning off certain pieces, and dealt with me honestly from the beginning. We live in a society now where it leaves us feeling cynical and wondering whether we'll be taken advantage of, but it was a pleasure to work with someone trustworthy. I was given several options in regards to the collection, it's sale, and disbursement of its value. I would highly recommend Charlotte Rare Coins.

Gregory and Janet were truley stellar to work with! I feel like I got a great deal and Gregory took care of me throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond to say the least. I am certain I wouldn't have gotten better service from any other coin specialist in the region! Very knowlegable, honest, and straigtforward business!

Questions & Answers

I have a bunch of uncirculated state coins some from several different mints. I don’t have the entire collection. I also have some Sacajawe gold dollar 2000 D. I want to get rid of them. Where can I do that.

Hi Eileen, thanks for contacting us. Although many people collect them for fun, the majority of the Statehood quarters are worth face value or very close to face value. The Sacagawea dollars are worth a small premium only if they are unciculated, if not then they are worth face value. We certainly buy them when they are part of a collection, but wanted to be transparent about the values. Wish I had better news! Thanks. Gregory

Hi, we do not but happy to refer you to a Charlotte area stamp dealer. Please call our main business line and we can help, thanks again.

Do you buy ERROR coins? Can you authenticate and grade legitimately with paperwork if needed?Do you take walk-in’s or only by appointments in advance? Looking to sell and/or authenticate certain individual coins, and buy early 1909-1939 pennies, too

Thanks for contacting us. The authenticity verification you're looking for would come from third party grading services. We have relationships with them, and can you assist you in that process. When looking at coins like this, we offer an opinion like all other coin dealers would provide. As for a meeting, we are by appointment only and all you would need to do is contact us and we can arrange a time. Thanks again. Gregory

Hi there I found a gold colored 1999 New Jersey quarter and I was wondering how much it might be worth and where I could take it to find out??

Thanks for contacting us. This is a gold plated quarter and these were usually done for TV or other marketing. The value is a little bit more than face value as this has a slight amount of gold.
