Janice & her team are very patient and consistently effective experts, and before my super smart "herding" toy aussie gets to far into a bad habit she responsively responds with helpful re framing of the issue, training tips, & reminders of the basics all dog owners should be equipped with for happy & well behaved dogs eventually! I love how she reminds that he IS a puppy & patience and routine are part of growing a good dog! Also, she has lots of fun, positive ways to teach him, in helpful handouts, for example, to only reward behavior that we want them to do. Janice's knowledge has been an invaluable resource. In puppy 1 class our pup loves the "go play" command, with the other pups in his class, after enrichment or reinforcing our homework in class training exercises, so much so, that we've signed up for Puppy 2! Janice is also super kind & down to earth, a pleasure to work with!

Unfortunately I did not have a great experience here. Janice came highly recommended by a local vet who did our dogs first wellness check after being adopted. I was very hopeful, however, it did not turn out the way I had expected. Adopting a dog comes with challenges and I was prepared for the task. However, after 2 classes at the facility, I felt like the worst pet owner ever. My dog is reactive. Not the type who would be aggressive, the one who wants to play and Interact with other dogs, who don’t always reciprocate. He also has a prey drive towards smaller creatures. His leash walking was horrible at best. I’m not sure if the trainers couldn’t see that or chose not to, but two classes in, they isolated us to a corner instead of teaching my dog to coexist with others and not lose control. I actually cried after the third class because I felt like the staff were not understanding and blamed me as the owner instead of helping us work through his issues. Prior to beginning the classes, I had stated I would miss the last 2 due to a previously planned trip. Janice told me she would reschedule. Upon my return from the trip, I emailed to reschedule and never heard back. Not even an offer to refund the funds for the classes they chose not to reschedule. I have since found a trainer who understood/understands my dogs needs and his progress has been amazing. He walks right next me, doesn’t pull, responds to verbal commands when other dogs are around, and can be off leash in certain situations. Training is an everyday occurrence that benefits myself and my dog. Sadly, I didn’t learn much from the Perfect Pup.

I took three classes with Carol Wescovich and it is hard to overstate the progress my puppy made over the course of the months we worked together. Carol is funny and down-to-earth, which helps as new dog owners awkwardly attempt to learn the sometimes-tricky choreography of clear and compassionate human-to-dog communication. In so doing, she reduces the stress owners feel about how quickly they are learning, allowing them instead to look forward to the coming week's practices alone and with our dogs. By the next class it always seemed that my pup and I had assimilated the lesson almost by osmosis, but of course we practiced a tiny bit each day (that's usually all it took). She was also great at helping each owner with strategies for managing their particular dog’s idiosyncrasies. By the end of Rally 1, my distractable dog was executing over 20 obedience activities off-leash on a single treat! People are always commenting on what fantastic manners he has with both people and with other dogs. Carol's wry humor and relaxed, understanding style of coaching demonstrate that positive training is at least as important for owners as it is for dogs.

I can't say enough good things about the Perfect Pup!! Everyone is so knowledgeable and caring. They alerted us to the fact that my puppy had some hearing loss and have worked with us to train her appropriately. It's been extremely helpful and I would be lost without their guidance. Also, our little one LOVES her 3 times per week Puppy Play visits and I love the socialization and fun she's having all under their watchful eyes!!
