Went here 3 years ago and it is so worth the visit. I loved all the little details and the acting from the soldiers

Wonderful Memorial, however, the locals do not realize a memorial is not a hang out, it's not a trash dump. It looks like someone set fire to a portion of the wall. How stupid can one be. I think a gate/fence or something should be around this memorial.

I think some questions and answers here are confusing this museum with the (much bigger) Museum of African American History and Culture on the Mall. You need to apply for a same-day pass for that museum (last I heard you could try to get one the same day by applying online at 6am in the morning). You don't for the smaller A.A.Civil War Museum, on Vermont Avenue in the U Street/Shaw area of DC.
I don't work for the museum, but my mother just went through the process of getting a certificate of service for her grandfather. She hasn't received it yet, but I would say certificates of service are still available.
No
It was Hari Jones and I am sorry to say he passed away in 2018.
I would say it would be appropriate for 3rd graders and up, the tour guide explains what happened in each site that you visit, and he gives you a couple of minutes to read things that are in the house or how the slaves lived at that time. I think it opens the door for a parent to educate the kids about slavery. Very good
It's not a federal museum so I would think so. Call them
f
You can google it under Smithsonian Museums for the holiday hours
It's free but they do ask for a donation if you're able to give one.
