This is a great park for beginner hikers and bird-watchers. The mostly flat trails are well maintained and clearly blazed. There are a few blinds for bird-watching over the creeks, and there are about 100 eagles that make the park their home year-round. Other birds common to the mid-Atlantic woods and freshwater areas can also be seen. The only down side is that the park tends to get busy, and unaware hikers will approach blinds (which are located at key points on the trails) noisily, and drive off the wildlife. Go early, when the park opens, if you're looking for undisturbed viewing. This park is also a popular spot for cyclists to park and set out on rides, so be careful driving the road in and out. Only one trail allows bikes.

Quiet, serene state park with several ecosystems. We did the loop that goes by the marsh with the great blue herons. It was peaceful and very beautiful! We plan to come back to explore more trails.

Yes. It can be fished in fresh and brackish water. You must have a valid Virginia or Maryland fishing license.
We don't have a designated swimming beach but we can't stop you from swimming off the beachey areas.
We can't stop folks from swimming but we don't have any designated swimming areas.
We have a shoreline and water but not a bathing or swimming beach.
Mason Neck has a car-top boat launch available for kayaks and canoes, but there is no place for trailer launching.
Yes, I believe it's a nominal fee, around $5 per car for Virginia residents. DCR lists fees on their website, dcr.virginia.gov.
Specifically, go to the boat ramp launch area for kayaks which is accessible by trail from the visitor's center
