We love Rock Creek park! Whether on a quiet trail, spotting owls, deer, or raccoons, sit and reflect by one of the many small enclaves by the rushing water, drop by the zoo or nature center, or jog/walk along a more bustling part of the path. The park is one of our favorite places to take the family or get in some alone time.

When we had visited they had a show with view of the night sky from Rock Creek Park. There was a real person explaining and interacting with the kids, which was really nice.
Dogs are not allowed inside the building but are allowed in the park as long as they are leashed at all times and the owners carry the waste out with them.
Google Maps is pretty good about routing you around any ongoing construction. I wouldn't worry too much about that impacting your visit.
