I have been to Schwabl's several times over the years but may not be going back. The food and service are top notch but, because of a new policy of theirs, my brother and I chose to leave today instead of staying to have lunch. The reason? The sign that is now posted on the front entrance, instead of being something friendly and welcoming, warns potential diners that tap water will not be served unless a drink is ordered from the menu! It says this is due to the current economic situation. We came in and were seated, and the waitress, after greeting us, immediately suggested we order one of the expensive specialty drinks. After asking her about the water policy, she somewhat embarrassingly said it was true and in force. We decided to get up leave in protest. So the owner, Gene, lost about a $75 tab or more and two customers by requiring we buy drinks to get tap water. Is this a good business plan? Maybe other patrons will not be bothered by this, but a certain amount certainly will, we among them.

This place was cool. Very old school vibe. Food was great. Service was great. Just the atmosphere to this place had me happy. It felt bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside.

I think so. When I was there it dod appear that people were getting carry outs.
Unfortunately we only have one line so if it’s busy that usually means we are on the other line for pick up orders. At this time we are not accepting reservations but if you call an hour ahead of your expected arrival we will do our best to accommodate your party. Please make sure everyone is there at the same time as we do not seat incomplete parties. Thank you!
Tables are distant, hand sanitizer before and after the door, wait staff wears masks. Please glass at bar near the front door and more that I could not see. Great meal.

Nope...and they look at you kinda funny if you ask. (At least what the particular waitress did when i asked if i could have broiled fish. She said, "I've been here over 20 years, and never heard of anyone getting that...even though a friend got broiled fish there a few months earlier. I guess you have to go there when the right waitress is working).
