I kinda have a love hate relationship with this place. Sometimes I do good, other times not so good. I will say I have better luck here though then other Casinos in the Southern Indiana area.

I have been to over a dozen casinos and tend to analyze my favorite games. I’m doing so, I found that the fu dai lai game is EXTREMELY suspect. Each major is usually a different amount per machine. This is not the case at the derby. You can see the machines re-shuffle, reels stop/start, experience delays in payout intermittently, see coins freeze as they go in the bowls, and if you cash out when bowls are big and place cash back in the machine, the bowls reduce back down! Another thing that I noticed is when multiple coins of each color drop on the reels, at least 2 bowls of not all 3 would spin. As you can see in the picture, this is not the case here. I hated the fact that I could not stop the reels on my own. In speaking with other players, they shared the same views. Between wins and losses, I left with a little more than I came with. Overall, I still had fun playing.
I have to say that I did see four people receiving significant hand-pays while present. Two of which were sitting side-by-side, which is rare. The game selections are not that bad. There’s a good selection as it seems like they’re bringing in newer games.
Casino is very clean, friendly atmosphere, and upscale restrooms! No long waits for player club cards as they sit in the foyer and sign you up at a table. Very quick process. The odds of winning seem less than regular casinos, so play wisely and set a limit.

I agree with some of the folks that this place is a big scam. Just because you have slot machines- don’t make one a casino. The feel is casino, but it’s a rip off. Since these machines are not regulated by the gaming commissions and independently regulated they could have manipulated the chip inside. The machines are very tight. If you go there, you sure will lose money. I think it’s time KY attorney general make sure it’s not scamming people. I was there 6 hours on Thursday evening.watched around. Not a single person won anything on this machines. WOW. Think about it

The people were very helpful, neither I nor the person with me had ever been before. They directed us to the cashier who was a plethora of information. We got gaming cards and free spins with that, total added $45 of play money to bet! For frree! Then I played $10;and won $90 and the person with me bet $30 in all and won $130. It was a fun good time! The helpful staff really made the experience enjoyable. You get voucher tickets with your winnings on them that you either take to the cashier or a machine to get cashed out. You can also load it onto your gaming card, but since we didn't know when we would be able to return we cashed out
What are the prices of the slot machines? Penny, nickel, dime, quarter? Or more expensive?

Yes and the bad thing about this is anything over $600 is considered a “taxable jackpot” as I won like $644 and some change on a “300-1 para-mutual bet” and it locked the machine and said congratulations on your jackpot win! An attendant will be here shortly to hand pay you! Showed up super quick (I was there the entire night and well into the next evening on the 1and only time I have been, and that was only the 2nd time a hand pay jackpot had been paid!!! So if that tells you anything, they are definitely tight! I won that $644 on a progressive PAC-MAN machine and it very quickly went back down to the starting amount for the “minor” that I won and it’s starting amount is only $200 for that particular level!! The mini starts at a paltry $25 and the major starts at $2000 or $1000 but it was almost $5000 when I hit the $644 which gives you a pretty good idea exactly how few and far between these so called “progressive with multi players” actually hit! I did win throughout my time there!
What kind of food and concessions are available? Is there a restaurant inside the building and how much is the price range?

Join the Derby City Gaming Players Club whenever you are there at the desk. They seem to have a day for seniors on Tuesday.

Does Derby City Gaming give you any promotions for your birthday?

Not sure. But, from what I've experienced, all promotions are very little and I play their on average of once a week. Of course I'm local though. Better promotions are typically offered to attract people who aren't local, frequent players.
If you ask the workers those are not slot machines. It's based on previous horse races. They tried to explain it to me. I just prefer roulette but will probly use coupon for 20 to try anyway
The machines seem to be regular slots with no horse race display or wager on most of the pics I've seen going to check it out myself Tuesday. How are these slots allowed in Louisville? Is the payout schedule more like lottery payouts, is that how?

No. Historical races used to generate random numbers that drive traditional style slot machines. You are able to select horses finish order in races if you like, but it is not necessary....nor really practical or reasonable due to time constraint on machines.
