The Quail Run primitive camping sites have a great waterfront view of the lake. A beautiful sunset and a full moon lighting up the lake was our experience! If you can get past the smelly stinky, but infested bathroom and single outside water spigot, it's a nice semi-secluded spot to pitch a tent and relax. We didn't stay long enough to hike any trails, but we saw others hiking and seemingly enjoying it. The provided fire ring is adequate. The grate isn't attached, and actually ours was missing. Luckily the campsite next to us was vacant, so we borrowed the one there. The camp host does sell fire wood, but I didn't see what it costed. I bought some at the gas station just before the state park ($5/bundle). There were tiny little beaches where we easily launched a fishing kayak.

You just have to have a KS fishing license and KS State Park Permit

Right now there are two spots in qual run and two at russal crites during this time of year it would be best if you call and reserve. These spots are currently available. For this Friday and Saturday.

Im not sure what you mean. They dont close the gates to the camp grounds. Especially if there are campers in them.
There hasn't been any when we are there, but I would imagine with any lake with prolonged heavy rain it's a possibility.
Most likely 2 pm, that is checkout time
If you reserve the campsite online and you get there late you just see the camp host the next morning. Each Campground area has its own camp host but you can come and go as you please 24 hours a day. If it's a spot that you can't reserve then you just go to it when you get there and still see the camp host the next morning to pay for it.
Dogs are allowed but strictly MUST be on a leash at all times. I got spoken to about our dog running without a leash.
Depends on how warm you want the wayer, swimming beaches open ladt weekend in may.
They do a quick check to see if you owe child support. Kansas state law states you cannot be in a kansas park if you owe child support.
Yes to both questions. Call Hillsdale lake they'll give more info. But they do have a camp site with a little round pin for your horses and lots of trails around the lake. Hope this help
I get park pass when I register my truck. Allows my entrance to all state parks in Kansas and good for a year.
Yes it's a Kansas state park . You have the option for a day pass ,or a yearly pass . The yearly pass is good at all Kansas state parks
March i believe
You can't purchase a year camp site. You can only camp so many days in a row. But you can purchase a year camping pass. It goes towards your daily fees.
I live by the park and I see quite a few turkeys buy I haven't seen but a couple of hunters.
Dont forget to ask about the annual camping permit. It's like 200 dollars but it gets you a substantial discount when you go camping at the kansas state parks. I got o e last year and my camping was 11 dollars a day for a 21 dollar spot. I stayed for 3 months so the permit saved me untold amounts of money.
They don't allow that...I've asked. But with circumstances like that it may be different. You'll have to call or go there to ask. You might be able to hook something up with one of the camp hosts. Even though they don't do that I've been there many times and seen some of the same campers over and over that aren't camp hosts'.
You can call and change the reservation for an other 30 days the day before! Or you can cancel but you will lose your reservation money if you decide to cancel!
Search "Hillsdale Lake Beach" and let Google do the rest.
I've done it before and nobody has said anything. I've done it numerous times...if it's peak season they would possibly say something. You need a $5 parking pass to enter the park. I'm sure as long as long as you had that, you could park at a showerhouse, park or rec area parking you would be fine. In the campground areas they may try and charge you for the site.
