I stayed here one night from July 29 to July 30. I had no idea they had no elevator. I have bone spurs in my right knee which I just found out about from an x-ray on July 25, and so going up stairs is hard for me right now. The room was on the second floor and there was no elevator. Luckily the staff were very obliging and helped me carry my bags upstairs. I was given room 7. The carpet is dirty and worn and the bed is so high you nearly need steps to climb in it. The shower stall in the bathroom has a glass door and is so small there is hardly any room to move around. When going up and down the stairs I noted that the railing is rickety and shaky and you really have to be careful. It is an accident waiting to happen. If someone were to lose his or her balance and grab into the railing it would probably not hold The breakfast the following morning was pieces of breakfast quiche, individually wrapped in Saran wrap and just left on the table. There were two Thermoses of coffee, a glass carafe of milk and one of orange juice kept chilled in a bucket of ice. There were also pastries and English muffins, all individually wrapped in Saran wrap. There were oranges and apples but the oranges looked awful with green rinds. No attendant was available anywhere. I will say this is an absolutely beautiful building with stunning architectural details suc pillars h as built in bookcases and shelves and cabinets, beautiful molding, etc, but the building dates from 1828 and the owners need to spend money putting in new carpets, fixing the staircase and improving the breakfast . They also need to make some structural repairs; while sitting on the porch eating dinner I looked over and saw that the bottom of one of the concrete (I guess) white pillars has sustained some type of water damage and appears to be coming apart. It is a terrible shame and I hope the owners soon are able to take care of these problems.

Disappointing. Was expecting "old", but the carpet in room 3 was disgustingly filthy. No soap, shampoo, etc... Horrible wifi reception. Most tv stations worth watching, not subscribed. Stayed two nights, room not made-up. No "do not disturb" or "housekeeping" door signs. Only one person at a time seemed to work there and they were always in back office, presumably taking reservations. Sheets were super soft and bed was ok.

Wanted to like this charming bnb but ultimately was disappointed. For $250/night, there was nothing impressive and no reason to come back. Fine, clean, and beautiful exterior, but had to chase down staff for any simple request -- check in, check out, ice (the machine was inaccessible), and breakfast utensils. They were not eager to welcome or suggest area attractions, which is typically the joy of a bnb. The breakfast was a very simple continental of pastries and fruit. Wifi was down the whole time and when we notified staff they said it should be working and would look into it but it was never fixed. Lovely local town to spend some time in, but would recommend sticking with an area hotel.

Elegant, comfortable and friendly. The staff is attentive with the lightest touch. The restaurant The Social has superb food. We couldn't have picked a better place. We have stayed at a number of area hotels as we are up there every 6 months and The Inn at Montpelier has been the best so far
