Excellent museum in Brooklyn and well worth a visit when in NYC; something a bit different and not so much on the tourist radar. Really interesting learning about the history of the subway and it's construction. Cool to see some preserved historical carriages as well.

So fun to see all the old subway cars, although (as a transportation ingenu) I was slightly overwhelmed with the amount of information.

This is a GREAT museum. So much history and great visuals and experiences to see it all. Both for subways and buses - took my two year old boy who is very active and it was a great interactive space. Super affordable. Highly recommend.
As of August 30, 2017.

They have an extensive gift shop selling whatever they can think of that in any way relates to the MTA. I liked it, but would have liked to see more books on their own collection. Its really quite an impressive museum.
On a rush round, it would take around an hour. If you want to linger round some of the exhibits and study them, quite a bit longer. It really depends on how interested you are in the history of public transport in and around New York.
Yes, you can and will work if you kid is really to young for be walking around , but I didn't saw any kind of stroller access, which means you need to carry or roll the stroller through the stairs, this museum is set in an old train station.
Do you still have the collectible tokens through the years?

In the gift shop or as part of the exhibit? I'm not sure about the gift shop but they do have a section that shows the tickets/tokens that have been used throughout the years. It was really cool to see the change in tokens.

When will the New York Transit Museum be open full time permanently?
"The Transit Museum’s wheelchair accessible entrance is located on the corner of Schermerhorn and Court Streets, in Downtown Brooklyn. Once there please press the call button to the left of the gate. The Museum’s admissions coordinator will dispatch a staff member to operate the lift."
Unfortunately you still have to wear one there. In fact there are numerous employees walking around who will correct you if you pull it down even if you are standing alone.
Hi
I would like to know if the New York Transit Museum has plans to open anytime soon?
Thanks

The 4 & The Five To Court St .. Walk A Few Blocks Over
There is, at the beginning of the exhibition you have details about the different type of construction, the tools used back in time and some interesting photos of construction sites

Street parking where and when available across the street from City Hall. I recommend researching and taking the subway to within a few blocks walk from it. MUCH cheaper and easier to get around.
The museum is in the subway line terminus in an actual subway station right across from Brooklyn City Hall. Normal street parking is everywhere in the area.
They have a number of different subway cars on the tracks of a real former subway station. They don't move or have a "Thomas " type engine, but they are real. You can even get an engineer's hat in the gift shop.
Strollers are allowed upstairs ... but I'm not sure about downstairs.
There's plenty to do upstairs - they have an activity room for kids. Check the website for activity times.
I checked website: museum is handicapped-accssible, except for some of the old trains. Strollers should go in by main entrance.
No. Based on their website
