Very pretty place with lots of fascinating history. Has easy walking trails that are good for dogs and kids.

Just minutes off I-90. Fun stop to break up the long drive through Montana.

We are from Missouri so it was cool to see the Missouri River Headwaters. The ranger followed us to where we parked and was very quick to tell us that it was 8 bucks to park. We paid 8 bucks and spend a total of 10 minutes there. It was weird and not worth 8 bucks but they knew they could get it so they did.

I have always been fascinated with the Lewis & Clark Expedition. We had a great time hiking the trails to the headwaters. Fun to learn about and see what L&C saw. We got to be in the same place they had breakfast. 😀

Three responses... 1. It is Montana State Park (Fee Area...) 2. There is a camper / motorhome campground with a fee and facility's that I posted a photo of charges of last year. 3. Climb and trail hike Fort Rock
There are definitely rock beaches and you can for sure swim in some areas.
Im sure that you could have a small wedding, as I have seen other groups there. Im not sure about what the reservations policies are. There is a really nice lawn area with bathrooms and tables by the historic grave area just past the pictographs. You could perhaps if you can't reserve send someone ahead to save it until you get there.
There are no RV hookups here. But you're camping where Lewis & Clark did in 1805, so it's worth it for a night or two! Have fun!♡
The width varies along it's 2,341 mile path through seven states and i think 15 reservoirs/dams. So it ranges from a few hundred feet wide to very wide in the reservoirs.
I've seen quite a few people on horseback, so I think it's allowed.
When it is open you are allowed to camp for 14 days
canoe is possible
