I was between 2 and 3 stars but then I remembered how expensive some menu items were. I love the location of the Von Trapp lodge, and I really wanted to love this restaurant. I had high hopes for the food quality and overall experience. Firstly, the appetizers we ordered were good (though about the bare minimum acceptable for the price). The cheese board was delicious, as was the quinoa salad. Unfortunately, the main course came as a disappointment. The schnitzel was good for the first two bites, but then became a chore to eat as it really lacked any flavor. The sweet potato gnocchi was tough and required a concerning amount of effort to stick my fork through. It also lacked any brightness in its flavor, and generally tasted dull and uninspired. The chicken was alright, not too bad. The scallops were good, though that should be absolutely the bare minimum for a $40 dish. The waitress was polite, but didn’t seem entirely with it when it came to bringing the right utensils. She first didnt bring saucers with the coffee, then forgot the cream and sugar, which she later brought without anything to stir the coffee. You would think for this price of restaurant they could bring it all together; every cheap roadside diner I have ever been to did a better job with service. It was not at all busy when we were there, it looked like just one other group was dining inside. I hope this place can get their act together, but given the trend of reviews they arent going in the right direction. The location and history has so much potential to be a great restaurant, but the quality of food and service offered for the price has me really thinking the Von Trapp family dining room is content with being a tourist trap.

This is a tourist trap. There is nothing pretty in the dining area. Its just a simple hotel, it looks like an old Sheraton. The beerhall is so much better, it has a more interesting vibe, great beer and good food, but really…the whole place could use a rethink.

TLDR: Way too expensive for what you get- I recommending driving into town or going to the beer house. …Hi Casie, I am so sorry that your dinging experience was not a better one. We certainly sourced to ensure that all of our dishes are of the highest ingredients and locally sourced. (a lot of items from our very own farm). We are understaffed as you mentioned and appreciate you noticing this as we work through these issues to ensure that we can serve as many guests as possible with the best service possible. Also, the breakfast buffet does have waffles daily and then either pancakes or French toast. It sounds like you were here on a French toast day. So sorry we can't offer all 3 every day! We are glad to hear you were able to try our very own Trapp Family Farm maple syrup on the buffet as well. Thanks! Bob

TLDR: Way too expensive for what you get- I recommending driving into town or going to the beer house. The poor folks here are clearly understaffed. For dinner things were alright, but when we came for breakfast there was maybe two members of the waitstaff? DINNER I got the soy roasted statler chicken, which was phenomenal! The corn base was phenomenal. But, I was the only happy one. My brothers dish was a ride. He loved the steak, no doubt about it. But what we thought we were ordering was a “surf and turf” sort of deal, because it was $45 and advertised as filet of beef with Alaskan King crab and mashed potatoes. Granted, the description said it was petit filet and king crab (not a crab leg) but my GOSH was this TINY! We were gobsmacked when it was brought out. To say there is king crab and to put a teensy little tiny piece on the crab is pretty cheap. We should’ve sent it back, but we were too shocked by what they gave us we just couldn’t believe it! My dad ordered the manicotti and it was basically inedible. The pesto combined with the tomato sauce and Parmesan made it so incredibly salty that we even as a whole couldn’t finish it. BREAKFAST Breakfast was a fine little buffet. The fresh fruit was tasty- lots of fresh raspberries and blueberries! Aside from that was your typical breakfast items- oatmeal, bacon, scrambled eggs. We really enjoyed the maple syrup of course, but I was surprised for them not to offer any pancakes. They did have French toast and waffles, but they were pretty rock hard since they were just out on plates for you to grab. However, for the price to come at $100 for four people I would’ve expected maybe some more options.
