We went here for a walk after reading the reviews. We love a good riverside walk as a family. We were left a little disappointed. There wasn't much going on - the town seemed a little quiet. Hopefully Norfolk livens up in the Summer.

We spent an early morning walking the dog out here. It was lovely. I sorta feel like trail is a bit of a misnomer since there isn't much signage for it and directions drop you in the middle of town. So, not exactly what I expected but a great way to see downtown.

A very good place to start doing your daily exercises. So beautiful and city keep it clean.

Very nice and clean. Not enough signage to navigate the trail. I would have not been able to follow the trail if my daughter had not been familiar with the route and served as guide. We are currently in the process of installing over 500 new signs. We're about 60% complete with new signs added weekly. Check out our video here about this massive signage effort! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVbifkLM0O0

It's been over 2 years in the making, but we just got final approval for an entire new wayfinding signage system for the ERT. We'll be adding over 400 new signs including directional arrows and mile markers, section maps and on ground blazes. These are slated for installation this spring. Be sure to check out the new ERT sharrows in Larchmont to ODU section too. These feature ERT letters and easy-to-follow directional arrows that help users navigating that winding residential section of the trail.
Closest address to the new obstacle course is the Fort Norfolk Medical Building at 301 Riverview Ave. The parking lot there is currently free and less than a 5-minute walk from the course. Here's a link to an aerial map of this area showing course, parking and other sections currently under constructions with more exciting amenities! https://mailchi.mp/51bb3796da11/plum-point-park-construction-begins
Hi Michelle! We are currently installing 500 signs - so many signs you *can't* get lost! They will be in by the end of this year. This 2 minute video explains our whole signage project if you want to learn more! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVbifkLM0O0&t=20s
Hi! It is a multi-surface trail - so some sections are better than others. We have a few off road paved sections like Towne Point and Harbor Park, Plum Point Park to Chelsea, and the Redgate pine grove in West Ghent through Jeff Robertson Park, and Lambert's Point area. Thanks for your question - I will look into making a map of surface types so it's easier to find sections that will work for skaters!
Hi, I'm not sure about that - Colonial Place is actually not on the ERT proper. Good luck!
Norfolk’s favorite battleship is getting a new boardwalk! The Nauticus pier at the USS Wisconsin will be under repairs from now until June. Bicyclists and pedestrians should follow the posted alternate route signs for the ERT during this exciting upgrade.
Hi Ken. There is parking by the Amtrak Station near Harbor Park on the east end of the trail. If starting on north end, you can park at Hermitage Museum. Note: museum closes their gates during their closed hours, so plan your run accordingly.
