The food was nothing great, and the experience was downright awful. The website leads people on to thinking that you get an intimate experience of chefs cooking in front of you. This may be true if you sit inside, but the website fails to disclose that if you choose to sit on the "patio", it is not so. The "patio" was a plastic-covered shed with no breeze or proper AC. It was hot, buggy, and didn't even have music playing -- despite the waitress telling us that there would be music. The food was edible but certainly not worth $170 for two people. Not to mention that we were being rushed through our courses the whole time? It was almost like they wanted us gone?? WTH. Two stars, and two thumbs down. Never going back. This is my first restaurant review because I feel it is my civic duty to warn people away from this atrocity of a restaurant experience.

We had dinner at the downtown location. Reservation was for 8 . We got in around 820. It wasn't a big deal but I feel like they could have been on time. We were seating in their "patio". It felt like their garage. Definitely don't go for the atmosphere. The food was good but small portions. One of the courses was steak . It was about 3 bites. If your a big eater you could leave hungry. When we got the bill there was a 15% tax added. That's outrageous. It's not their fault but I would've hidden it in the bill. There's too many other options in Charleston to even consider going back.

Heard about R Kitchen a couple years ago, but this was our first time finally getting to experience "dining in the kitchen"... it was a great, fun, intimate experience capped with five courses of great food.

A tasting menu experience where the chef's who cook the food bring it to you and explain not just what you you are eating but why they wanted to make it

Yes. When I went many people brought their own. However they made a great wine recommendation to me, as I had not brought anything.
It is safe, best practices are maintained. Plus very small groups are only allowed per reservation. I would worry more about going to a big restaurant.
Yes with a cover... However, they have a limited seating due to COVID. Reservations are required. (No walk-ins)
Yes, you have to make a reservation. It is not a typical restaurant. They do custom meals for the number of people attending the dinners.
I am trying to remember what I did. I think I just called them and left a voicemail, and a second time when I had to make a change to my reservation, I called back qnd actually got ahold of a person. I tried always calling around 11 am eastern time, as I figured there might be someone in the kitchen but they wouldn't be busy serving people. I wouldn't give up!
We texted and they were responsive. The response might be delayed as they operate during specific hours but it was the most convenient thing for us since we were in a different time zone as well.
You need to text the phone number to get reservations. Very small place. No walk ins.
